1935: "An earthquake which shook northeast India at 3 A.M. for less than one minute caused much damage. At least 20,000 are believed killed while unofficial estimates are 30,000 dead. Floods in Colorado caused the death of 28 people within one week. Damage is worst at Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Ellis "Pa" Roberts retires as postman. He has been a carrier since June 19, 1899. Joe Weisheipl's father, Max passed away this morning at 8 o'clock. Born Sept. 22, 1853. Married to Miss Anna Fenzel May 20, 1883. She died May 22, 1907." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1937: "Another warm day, we spent the night at the cottage, the first one this year. The children have lots of fun fishing and the grown ups play cards. I work from 10:30 to 6 P.M. I almost forgot to mention Anna Heip's making a eight point hand in sheephead and still lost the game. The nearest competition had two points when she had eleven." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1939: "Another hot day, temperatures are up to 93°. I visit Anna and Lena Drexler. They had a pleasant visit with Margaret in Milwaukee last Sunday. Also visited Grandma Baier.
