1941: "This is a busy day for all of us. We are having a Grand Opening at our West Side Store. Altho [sic] it is a day of rain many people avail themselves of the opportunity to congratulate us. Celia Fretschel is married to Herbert Putzer at 9 o'clock at St. Vincent's. Grandma Baier is laid to rest this morning. Church service at 10:15 A.M. at St. Vincent's. Father Michael Drexler is in the Sanctuary. We attend the Putzer wedding reception at the E.R.A. building after I get thru working at the store. Get home at 1:30 A.M. and it is still raining.
