Charles Sullivan – “Rexall Store Layout Expert” arrives today. He is somewhat ahead of schedule. Les Evans died at Mercy Hospital last night
of a heart attack. Born in Luxora Ark.

05. Monday: More fixtures today, and everybody is
on the job. So is Doctor Ware but his
offices are not ready and he is plenty burnt up. Thres To Christian Mothers Christmas Party St.
Vincents tonight. Frank Norkofski had a
heart attack while at work tonite near 9 Oclock
06. Tuesday: [T] To Kiwanis luncheon. Our table Al Dunham – Ed Ledvina –Dr. Guy
Wiley, myself. Mary Ann to Lady
Foresters Christmas Party tonight and Mother to Ladies Auxiliary Party. Had quite a snowstorm today – 4 ½ inches,
that’s a good beginning.
07. Wednesday: Charles Sullivan begins work at the
Store this morning altho he has been here in an advisory capacity for several
days. Thres and Aunt Mary to Aunt Annie
birthday surprise by the Bingo Club.
First time Aunt Mary been to Annie’s since last summer. The Oldster’s really stole the show with
their dances. Thres gets a door prize. Art – Margret – Norbert – Esther Mueller, Mr.
Mrs. Ed Dietze – Fred – Loretta Baumgartner help of the store tonight until 11
Oclock. Hazel Thoma is 49 today.
08. Thursday: To 7 Oclock Mass St. Vincents Father
Wagner. Zero this A.M. Gene Mitchell and Ken Sipersky are in town. Ken gives me some “Wispride ” Cheese. Mary Ann is out to Manda Drexlers for the day. Thres and self attend the supper at the “First
Evangelical Church” corner Washington and Bay Sts. Kiwanis Club is very well represented. A very fine meal. St. Marys ends “Forty Hours.” I did not get
there. The folks of the store work until
2 A.M. Friday. Mary Ann at Manda’s for
the day.
09. Friday: Arlene has a birthday, she is 19. Boys are still very busy trying to get stock
in order. They keep going until 1230
A.M. Saturday. I call it a day at 1130
P.M. that is 12 ½ hours for me today. One
degree below zero this morning.
10. Saturday: Mary Ann spends the afternoon and
evening at Donald’s and Arlene’s. They
stop here for short visit tonite when they bring Mary Ann home.
11. Sunday: [T] To 730 Mass with
St. Vincents Holy Name. To work 930
to 1230 back at 430 to 600
-700 to 1030 – 8 hours. Temperature is up to 58° today.

12. Monday: Thres
entertains the Ladies Auxiliary Card Club this afternoon. It not only a
card party, the ladies also exchange gifts. They had lots of fun, some of
the ladies received comic gifts. The boys almost locked me in the new
store tonite. Art Mueller luckily came in ad midnite to ask if I had a
key. Well I didnt have one. Worked 12 hours today. Miles
Kimball is laid to rest.
13. Tuesday: To Kiwanis luncheon. Had Bill Thompson “Toni Salesman” and Charles
E. Sullivan Rexall layout expert for my guests.
Charles left us this afternoon for his home in Los Angeles. Worked 10 ½ hours today.
14. Wednesday: Looks like no nights off this week. Worked 11 ½ hours today.
15. Thursday: Andy Miller is here to put our new
Hall Mark Case in order. Worked 11 hours
today.
16. Friday: The City of New York enjoys? a bathless day today. On account of the shortage of water people
are asked not to take a bath and not to shave today. Expect to save at least 80 000 000 gallons of
water in their reservoir. Thres and
Annie Heips are out shopping this afternoon.
Worked 10 ½ hours today. Almost
got a job tending one of the Salvation Army Kettles tonite but I’m too busy.
17. Saturday: Weather is still nice and we are
doing a good business altho we are still quite handicapped. Mary Ann worked this afternoon and evening. I had a night call from Florence Ostertag at
10.15 P.M. Prescription from Dr. Ray
Wagner was forgotten doctor thinks by himself.
I worked 11 ½ hours today.
18. Sunday: To 730 Mass St.
Vincents Monsignor Bastian. Then to work,
we are very busy at the store. Worked 8 ½
hours today.
19. Monday: Think we hit the peak at our postal
Station tonight. Worked 11 ½ hours today.

21. Wednesday: Stayed at home this morning to
write and mail Christmas Greetings.
Snowing this afternoon and evening.
Worked 7 ½ hours today. Aunt Mary
does not want to stay home alone lately.
She is hard to convince that occasionally she’ll be alone for few hours.
22. Thursday: Usual routine and a nice business at
the store.
23. Friday: Am trying hard to wind up addressing
greeting cards, think I’m just about thru when a few more come to my mind. Also very busy at the store. This evening wrapped Christmas presents for
the Doctors over a hundred and also some for friends. Worked until 11.30.
24. Saturday: Another very busy day begins with
delivering presents to the Doctor’s homes all over the city. Had Donald and Billy Mauritz to help me. This afternoon to the sisters – Father Murphy
at St. Johns –and Sisters St. Vincents Right Rev. Monsignor – Fathers Wagner
and Bouchette. Helped out at the store,
we closed at 630 and I and all but bushed. Took a rest after supper and exchanged
presents at home.

25. Sunday: [T] Begin the day by attending
midnight Solemn Hi Mass Monsignor Bastian, assisted by Fathers Wagner and Bouchette. Father Wagner delivers the sermon. Had a nice ham lunch after the service. To bed at 345. Up at 910
A.M. Worked 2 ½ hours. Store closed at 1230. Donald – Arlene and Sandy are here for dinner
at 230. Joe – Annie –
Matt – Rose – Marion Weisheipl are here with presents. They leave at 345. Don and folks take Mary Ann to the Oshkosh. I sleep again until 7 P.M. at 745
Joe – Ceil – Matt – Amanda – Johnny – Joey – Lucy Drexler are here with more
presents. The twins have a lot of fun. They leave at 1015 P.M. The Holy Father Pope Pius XII opens the Holy
Year with solemn services and opening of the “Holy Door.”
26. Monday: Back to work this morning at 830
and there is plenty to do. Wrote up
orders until 430 this afternoon. Ed Fretschl clean the floor at the
store. After 430 took
Thres – Mary Ann – Aunt Mary for a visit to Joe Baiers and then to Joe Drexlers
where we have supper. Met Marion Drexlers
new boy friend Ralph. Appears to be a
very nice young man. After supper to Ottilia
Drexlers some of Clara and Caroline’s girl friends are there. Back home at 945. Marion received 3 dollars from Joe and
Emma. The weather was perfect today.
27. Tuesday: To Kiwanis luncheon. Cola Parker President of Kimberly Clark Co.
was our speaker. Norm Brown is in the
city. Stopped at the house to see our tree
and the beautiful poinsetia he sent us.
Ma Potter furnished ham sandwiches.
28. Wednesday: Mary Ann to Amanda’s this morning. Thres and myself are there for supper in the
evening. Tony and Nora Serwas and Mr.
Mrs. Joe Stoegbauer are also there for a visit.
29. Thursday:
To Mercy Hospital to fit a truss for Mr. Zager Room 306. Met Nick Rhyner was has been in the hospital
for 3 weeks. Spend the evening at Art
Hazen’s new home. Took Aunt Mary to
Annie Heips for the afternoon until 8 Oclock.
30. Friday: Another busy day at the store. Meet with Chuck Fiss and Joe Drexler. Thres and self visit Monsignor Bastian this
eve.

Special Joe – Annie Weisheipl – Ed and Thres Fretschl have their new years
party at our house without us. They stay
overnite.
Saturday: Busy getting ready
to leave for a few days in Chicago.
Train leaves at 1105 A.M. Met Norm – Sybelle Brown and Mr. Mrs. Art
Lock. Had luncheon on the diner, some
very fine pork chops for me. Ed and Ella
Worm on at Fond du Lac. Meet the
streamliner at Milwaukee, in Chicago about 3 Oclock, taxi to Bismarck Hotel,
met Bob and Mary Kniss – Ed and Ruth Lange there. We are all housed on the same floor. Our room 1312. Browns 1301 Worms 1321. Had dinner at the “Swiss Chalet” pictures
were taken of the group. After the
dinner to the Chicago Stadium to see “Sonja Henni’s Ice Revue.” It was gorgeous
with costumes and not a dull moment.
After that to Norm’s Room where Art Lock – entertained, I guess we all
entertained? Bill Anderson and wife are
there also. Thats all for this year –
