Diary of Alfred E. Potter December, 1955

01.  Thursday: [M 9 M] Learned today that Father Dave Bunkelman is at Mercy Hospital.
02.  Friday: To Church at 7 oclock for Holy Communion only.  Annie Weisheipl, Sister of Mother has a birthday, she is 73.  Met with Dick White this morning as to what stocks to give to Mary Ann.  Our S.S.B.M. program committee meet with Paul Wertsch our program chairman at his home this evening.  Thres – Mary Ann and self to K.C. Club for evening meal.  Met Ray and Mrs. Mueller also Mr. Mrs. Al McDermott.  Then to Poklasny’s to pay last respects to Camilla Putzer.  Had a visit with Father Gregory Putzer, met Sisters.

03.  Saturday: [M 9 M   G 3 M] More snow during the night, and quite a bit more this morning.  Debbie and Donnie are over for their T.V. programs this morning.  Francis Lamb is over for another conference this afternoon.  Looks like we may do some profit sharing this year, with some of our help.
04.  Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass.  Father Schorn is somewhat lengthy with his sermon this morning.
05.  Monday: Father Louis Schorn’s birthday I believe he is 63.  Had our regular Monday A.M. meeting at South Store.  Joe Baier and I are guests of Fred Baumgartner at Rotary.  Marty Unmuth from Appleton was down also.  John Callinan is at our table.  Thres has the S.S.B.M. Auxiliary Card Club over today, 16 ladies are present.  Tonight Mother is at the Christian Mothers party at St. Vincents, about 300 ladies present.  Very impressive program.  Florence Weisheipl puts on part two of the program with the “Judy Stillman Dancers.”
06. Tuesday: [De Soto 50000 miles] Another busy day coming up, but we will manage.  We had in all night border with us.  “Fuzzie” Kinateder’s pet cat came in about 10 last night and stayed until about 10 this morning.  To Kiwanis luncheon, Dr. Graber – John Voss – Al Kuebler – Wes Parker – Al Potter our table.  Another meeting with Francis Lamb at 2 P.M. until 3.30.  S.S.B.M. Auxiliary have their Christmas party at the Athearn.  Begins with dinner at 630 court whist and presents follow.  My De Soto hit 50000 miles on Wis. Ave. Bridge on way to Kiwanis.
07.  Wednesday: According to inheritance tax notice Dr. George Lynch left an estate of 213000 when he died at Miami April 28th.
08.  Thursday: To 630 Mass.  Father Schorn.  Don and family are over for breakfast after 8 Oclock Mass.  Harry Adams former Norwich salesman who called on me for many years died at Mercy this morning 10.15.  Born in Waterloo Iowa Aug. 24 – 1884.  His wife Josphine died May 29 – 1951.  Joe Stadtmueller was elected president of the Wisconsin Implement Dealers Association at the Milwaukee Auditorium Convention yesterday.  Margaret Radomski phone from Chicago that Bob Gittings passed away.

09.  Friday: I called Chicago and had quite a conversation with Rose Gittings about Bob.  He passed away Tuesday evening of a heart attack.  He received the Last Rites of the Church and will be buried tomorrow morning.
10.  Saturday: Attended Harry Adams funeral this morning.
11.  Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass, Father Schorn.  We renew our pledge to the “League of Decency” also Holy Name Pledge.

12.  Monday: Mueller Potter Drug Company meeting at 830.  Stock Reports on M.P.D. given to the boys.  Fred Baumgartner is rather panicky about losing Sy.  Over to see Harold Zweifel at the bank about engineering tonites election of officers of S.S.B.M. Club.  Got permission from Paul Wertch and Francis Roch to run for Pres. and Vice Pre.  Norm Brown is over for pigs hocks – sauerkraut – dumplings.  Helped Rose with a bank deposit – Don with orders –plenty of my work also.  Tonight Directors meeting S.S.B.M. Club, New Pres. and Vice Pres. Wertch and Roch.  Took Mother and Annie Heip to Cath. Council Christmas Party.
13.  Tuesday: To Kiwanis luncheon.  We tour the Stanley Webster Junior Hi School.  Perry Tipler Supt. of Schools is our groups guide.
14.  Wednesday: Mother is busy shopping on Main Street this morning.
15.  Thursday: [M 12 M] Cold this morning - 3° below zero.  We get a new Automatic Water Softener at the house today, installed by Culligan Service.  Tena (Stein) Olp is over for a visit with Thres.  This is her first since she boards and rooms with Anna Ostertag.  Tena gave Thres piano lessons when we lived on Ohio Street

17.  Saturday: [M 12 M   C 3 M] Danny Nikolas and Faith Christowski are married at Peace Lutheran.
18.  Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass.  Picked up Mrs. Anna Jungwirth as usual.  Father Milbauer spoke on the First Commandment.
19.  Monday: Sybelle Brown is 46 today.  Norm is with us for luncheon.  Thres is not with us, as she attends S.S.B.M. Auxiliary Christmas Party at Ostertags Tea Room.  This is the Card Club Thres has 71 points and gets first prize.

23.  Friday: Ruth and Jerry Clements
24.  Saturday: We are about at the end of delivering presents, Don is out to Father Schorn’s, Father Williams, Dr. Petersek, Dr. Monday, and many others.  I visited with Sister Laurentina, also Sister Emmelia, then with Brother Eugene at Alexian Home, also Brother Sixtus.  Norm Brown stopped at our house with Susie and Timmy. They are picking up Barbara and family at the Airport.
25.  Sunday: Don and Arline come over to attend midnight Mass with us.  The service is broadcast over Radio Station WOSH for the first time from St. Vincents and A.E.P. paid for it.  Dons family are also with us to spend the day and have dinner here.  In the evening they are at Arline's folks, the “Felkers.”

26.  Monday: Our stores are open until 12 noon today, and we are fairly busy, South took in about 360 dollars.  Donald – Arlene and Mary Ann attend wedding of Tom Peck to ___ in St. Patricks Church Green Bay.  They are back at 5 P.M.  Rose Weisheipl and her mother Anna are with us for the afternoon and evening, to make their holiday visit.  Rose rarely visits us.  She was here last when Aunt Mary passed away in February.
27.  Tuesday: Mother and Mary Ann attend Solemn Wedding Ceremony uniting Eileen Wertz and F. Richard Bloechl at St. Vincents.  We all attend the reception and dinner at the Athearn.  Had my De Soto washed it surely needed cleaning.  This evening Agnes and Harry Kujawa come over from Berlin for a visit, and a very pleasant one.  They left for home about midnight.  Norm Brown is making his Monday trip to Oshkosh today.
