We have a new director at the Curative Workshop, Mrs. Bernice Crawford
from West Bend. Five Congressmen were
wounded, while the House was in session, by several Puerto Ricans who shot at
the Congressmen from a spectaters gallery.
Lolita Lebron 34 who led the shooting said “I’m not sorry what I did.” Represented
Alvin M. Bentley 35 (R Mich.) was critically injured, others injured Ken

02. Tuesday: [R 2 M 8 hrs.] To
Kiwanis luncheon, Chuck Wittmack Jr. talks on the New Hi School, "Shall we
remodel the one on the old site at a cost of 2 million or build an entirely new
one on a new 20 acre site for 3 million? A good presentation. Thres plays cards
tonite at Emma Lemke's with Thres Froetschl and Annie Heip. I attend Mother of
Perpetual Help Devotion. After work stop in at Marge Haverty's for a short
visit. Robert A. Mueller (F.W.'s brother) died at 5:30 this morning at 222
Ceape. Born June 15, 1882. Married Hattie Petzold June 14, 1910.
03. Wednesday: [R 4 M 7 hrs.] Mary
Ann begins Lent by going to "Holy Mass." She tells us she is
going every day if she wakes up in time. Attend church services tonite and I
have quite a time getting there. My chest pains are very severe and to make
matters worse no place in church to rest. Had to stay in back; lucky Thres found
a place with Donald and family. Little Donnie spied me in back and had to
tell the people about "Papa" out loud. Don and family are with us
after church until 11.15 P.M.
04. Thursday: [10 ½ hrs.] Thurs. Feb. 25 – 54 (Most Rev. John B Grellinger –
Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay arrived 2/25/54 at his new Pastorate
St. Marys Congregation this afternoon.
He was born in Milwaukee Nov. 5 -1899.
Consecrated Bishop July 14 – 1949.
Francis Lamb is at the store. He
and I go of “couple of fast rounds” as he terms it, at income tax.

Bastian. Francis Lamb is back again this
afternoon. Arthur Godfrey’s Pilot certificate
is suspended for six months effective March 16, as a penalty for careless
flying at Teterboro New Jersey airport Jan. 7.

today. It is Mary Anns birthday, she is

enjoy it very much. After dinner a trip
to the cemetery in the evening is spent at the Oshkosh seeing Martin and Lewis
in “Money from Home.”

Vila Lynn Marble spoke on into relation with Latin America. Our into club committee met at our table. Attended cemetery board meeting at City Hall
at 430. Had my Desoto checked over
greased and oiled. Two Mother of
Perpetual Help Devotion and Stations tonite Donald and Arlene are with us. Oregon Street Merchants elected new officers

730 Hi Mass - Holy Name - Father Milbauer spoke on the
Creation. My father, Stansilaus Jarosch, passed away 47 years ago today. R.I.P.
I was 16 at the time. Worked 3 hours this morning. Attended stations of
the cross at 130. Worked another hour, then a short nap. Took
Thres and Mary Ann to John Bauer where Carrie has a shower for Mary Grable.
Alvina Putzer tells me she is getting over a body rash and itch. She is using
Cortef Oint. Worked most of the evening also paid last respects and attended
rosary for Clarence Schneider at Poklasny. Mary Ann and self had a “Tenderloin
Luncheon” at Club 375, then out to Aunt Annie. Corky has income tax trouble,
have’nt we all. Home at 11.30.

Mother is with us this morning. Another
beautiful day. To Kiwanis luncheon. Took Kenny Sepersky as guest. Howard Cleave showed colored pictures of
animal night life. I believe the best I’ve
ever seen, he also showed birds, some taken inside a large chimney. We saw owls – frogs – bugs – insects –
butterflies – serpents – alligators – raccoons – insect eating plants. Thres attended illustrated lecture by Father
Rudolph Hodik of Casca, on Padre Pio, stigmata priest since 1918. I attended stations at St. Vincents.

for Andy Miller, with Matt Mauritz –Gene Whittemore – Nolan Schani – John Mateyka
– Joe Lang. Msgr. Bastian has the
Service. Thres does a lot of card
playing today, this afternoon at Mayme Haidlinger is with Mary Beck –Thressie
Siebold and tonite at Aunt Annie Heips with Mayme Haidlinger –Mary Schneider –Mary
Beck. Comes home at 12.45 A.M. and she
is tired, played a different game of sheephead, 7 cards to each player and 4
cards in the center. She did win 2.90.
18. Thursday: [T] Playoffs
in the WIAA basketball tournament begin today in Madison. Our Oshkosh Indians
defeat Waukesha 67-60. Larry Swanson, Guard for our high school team, made 31
points. Thres and me visit Aunt Mary at Mercy tonite. Also surprized to
find Hattie Bathke confined at the hospital. She is Ernie Siewerts sister.
She will be 76 in April. Maxine, Ray's wife, is with her. Also stopped to see
Mrs. Kavage; she is in pretty bad shape, also Amber Holmes. Sister Cornelia has
a heart spell, we ended with quite a visit with Sister Iranaea.
19. Friday: [R 4 M] St. Joseph’s day happens to be
Ed Ledvina’s birthday. I believe he’s 66. Our High School Indians are beaten tonight by
the Stevens Point Panthers, 62 to 51. In
the first 5 minutes of play our boys were frigid, the Panthers were hot, the
score 20-3. Fans numbered 13973 a record
crowd, most of them for Oshkosh. I
attended stations at St. Vincents tonite.
20. Saturday: [10 hours] Took Thres along to Court
House to sign for a loan for Ray and Mrs. Schani. Then shopping to Ernie Siewerts for the week’s
supply of meats and sausages. Spring
officially begins at 9.45 tonite.
21. Sunday: [5 hrs.] Day of Recollection for
Council of Catholic Women at Sacred Heart.
Father James R. O’Neill S.J. is the guest speaker. Thres’ chauffeur Jean Dodd forgot about her,
so I took her to church. Worked this
morning 9-12.30. Took Thres and Mary to
Sacred Heart for 2 Oclock. I attended
Stations of the Cross at St. Johns. Art
Mueller is bowling at Clintonville today.
Thres and Mary Ann have supper at Aunt Annies, I joined them after work,
home at 11.45 P.M.

to clouds and snow. Norm Brown is here for
pig hock dinner. Elmer Rand passed away
last night at his home 718 11th St. Born Dec. 13 – 1878 –married Ormie Cowan
Sept. 25 -1918. Charles W. Palecek died
at his home 1023 – 10th at 11.30 this morning.
Born Oct. 17-1895 – Married Oct. 30 -1923. Besides the widow Cecelia 4 daughters 6 sons
survive, one daughter Sister Mary Roselle is at Holy Redeemer, Madison.
23. Tuesday: To 645 Mass, Father
Milbauer. Meeting of Interclub Committee
at Kiwanis. We also had two basket ball
teams as guests. Our “Hi School Indians”
and the Park School best sports team.
Paid last respects to Charles Palecek.
Met Sister Roselle and Mrs. Bloomer.
To cemetery board meeting at 430. Art Doule and Bernard Williams are absent. To Knife and Fork Club Dinner. Ed Harding, North Carolina humorist is the
speaker. According to him there are no

24. Wednesday: [R 4 M] Mary Ann and me to 645 Mass. I'm a little late. Paid
last respects to Elmer Rand at Milton Seefeldt's this morning. Rose Weisheipl
is at Appleton tonite with her sister Mary to view their new Television. Bob
works nights this week. He is even learning to knit. Well, it's all in his job
to learn about the different machines at Zwicker Knitting Mills. WOSH-TV closed
down their radio station yesterday. Not enough financial support to keep it
going.

25. Thursday: A heavy fog hovers over the city
this morning. We all attend Holy Mass
this morning. Temperature rises to 64
this noon. A very high wind almost two
storm proportions. Temperature down to
39 by 5 oclock with the shift of the wind.
Thres and me to St. Mary’s Church this afternoon St. Irene calls about a
position open as the farm manager at the Palatine Fathers, Madison 4 Wis. I made arrangements by phone with Brother
Paul for George Rieger.

26. Friday: [R 4 M 7 hrs.] To 645 Mass,
Father Milbauer. We note that winds
reached a velocity of 55 to 60 miles an hour in Oshkosh, and up to 80 miles an
hour in Milwaukee. 14 persons were hurt
and much damage done there. Sister Irene
went on retreat last night at 7 Oclock.
It will be for one week. Father
Alfred Loehr is in today with his housekeeper.
He is now stationed in Humbold.
Mary Ann and Joann Mauritz to the Raulf “Riot in Cell Block 11” and
Bowery Boys in “Paris Playboys.” Ma and I dine on lobster tail at the Town
Grill.

to Appleton to see Bob and Mary. They live on North State Street. Our Mary went along for the ride. We got into quite a snowstorm and fog on the
way back. Tony Ebersberger’s mother Mary
Kavage died at Mercy at 10 A.M. today.
Born Nov. 27 – 1900. Married Tony
Ebersberger on Feb. 21 -1922. He died
June 1923. Married Jack Kavage May
2-1931. He died Jan. 1952. She was a sister to Francis – Ed – Jos. –
Herman Suda also Mrs. Lester Girens.

28. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass. The Lady Foresters 40th Anniversary today. Ma – Mary Ann and Arlene to Communion with
them, but did not attend the breakfast.
Bro. Paul and Bro. Jacob are here to find if Joe Rieger wants the job at
Madison. Joe turned it down. I also learned from Mr. Arneman at the County
Hospital they would prefer a native for their farm. Joe had his heart set on this job. Last night we see Alan Ladd – Shelley Winters
in Saskatchewan and “The Glass Webb” tonight “From here to Eternity” with Burt
Lancaster, Montgomery Cliff – Frank Sinatra – Deborah Kerr –Donna Reed and “Savage
Mutiny” Starring Johnny Weissmueller.

Did’nt get to bed until 1 A.M. but woke up in time to attend Holy

Schneider’s (Mrs. Oscar) 427 – 12th this afternoon and walks away with first
prize 70 cents. Attended Rosary for Mary
Kavage tonight at Fiss and Bills, also viewed the remains of Frank Schoblasky. Took Mary Kriz and Mrs. Anna Jungwirth home
then to Joe and Emma Baiers to see Television.
Emma seems much improved.

30. Tuesday: To bed at 130 A.M.,
don’t know why, guess the crossword puzzle got me. Mary Ann and me to Holy Mass. Ma overslept.
To Kiwanis luncheon, Mayor John boss spoke, told his reasons why we
should not build a new High School on a new location. Interesting and enlightening. But I had an overtime party ticket when I cam
out. Spent some time with Jim Eckrich
this morning.

[R 4 M] Wilmer (Shorty) La Fond, Jean and family moved to Phoenix Arizona last
Sunday. Shorty was quite a bowler here. We all attend Holy Mass at 645. Met Jake Jungwirth this morning as he is
ready to cover his rural postal route.
He has all of his teeth out.
