today.] To 645 Hi Mass and Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament. Father Schorn. Im still scuffling with my books, and getting
nowhere fast. Took the folks to K.C.
Club for Friday fish and lobster tail.
Met Matt and Mandy Drexler and twin boys Joey and Johnny. It is their 20th wedding anniversary, and we
have a little celebration all our own.

03. Saturday: [M 12 M] To 745 Mass – Fr.
Milbauer. It is a new Mass in honor of
our new “St. Pius X.”

04. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass –
Father Milbauer, he explains the merits of Mass, both Hi and Low. Worked this morning also part of this
afternoon and took Thres Fretschl and Annie Weisheipl with us to the
cottage. Sheephead and Pokeno evening
entertainment until midnight.

05. Monday: [R Lady
Fatima TEG] Eddie Weisheipl is in luck
today. Florence gave birth to a 7# 14 ½ oz. baby girl this morning and it also
their wedding anniversary. I worked this morning and Mary Ann helped me this
afternoon. On the way back to the cottage I stopped at Bertha Becks 1231 5th
where Bob - Marion - Eddie Weisheipl are having a keg of beer. Learned that Rose
came in from her trip at 130 this afternoon. Don and family
are out to the cottage this afternoon and evening. Played Pokeno and also had a
nice wiener roast. Aunt Annie home with Donald.
06. Tuesday: [R Lady of
Fatima] Schools do not open as usual, account of Polio. Tropical storm
rains from Hurricane Gladys raise waters at Tampico Mexico to flood
stage.
07. Wednesday: Took Mary Ann and Mother to the
Raulf tonite. “It’s Always Fair Weather”
is a good picture with Gene Kelly – Dan Dailey – Cyd Charisse – Dolores Gray
and Michael Kidd.
08. Thursday: [M 9 M] Joe Baier and Billy Mauritz
are in Milwaukee to see the Braves – Brooklyn Dodger game. Thres and me visit Florence Weisheipl at the
hospital. We present her with a “Baby
Bunting.” Eddie is with her for the afternoon.
Visited with Mike Eichman, he looks very much better than the last time
I saw him. Met Mr. Hannan with the
telephone company. Also chatted with
Sisters Emmelia – Irene and Elleanor.
09. Friday: [Julie Baumgartner a girl. Frank Pommerend is 81 today.] Mary Ann gets
herself a permanent this morning.
Temperature is going up, its 96° this afternoon. Eddie brings Florence and the little girl
home from the hospital. As usual we are
at the K.C. Club for lobster tail.
Johnny McKone and I have quite a confab, about folks who put on a big
front at important doings but are loathe to spend any money to put things
over. Fred and Loretta Baumgartner
become grandpa and grandma today. Julie
has a little girl.
10. Saturday: Busy paying bills, 10th of the month
you know. According to Wisconsin
Industrial Commission figures released for July Kohler employees averaged 94.09
dollars per week Beloit 82.94 Green Bay 76.50 Kenosha 81.67 Madison 82.29 La Crosse
78.83 Sheboygan 67.21 Milwaukee County 87.77 Racine County 80.12 State of
Wisconsin 79.48 Oshkosh 65.17 Tom Friedman, son of Ralph Friedman, president of
Schuster Stores was critically burned in a tryout race at the Elkhart Race
Tracks. He was one of the top sports car
racers in the country.
11. Sunday: [Billy Hoeft wins 16 games. Blanks Senators 8-0 this is 4 in a row for
him.] To 730 Low Mass with Holy Name. Mass is celebrated by a Dominican Father
_____ who explains about the Devotion to our “Mother of Perpetual Help.” Thres
and I take a ride to the cottage about 5 Oclock. Adeline Ritschie and Mrs. John Glotz have a
collision at the entrance to the Glotz cottage, slight damage to both
cars. On the way back we stop at
cemetery to see the Memorial for Msgr. Aloys Bastian. It is beautiful, a warm tribute to his
memory. This evening we play cards at St.
Vincents. Oshkosh Apostolate is

12. Monday: [Debbie first A at School. Ed Fretschl 70 today] Schools in Oshkosh open today. Debbie's first day at Smith School
and Donnie would like to be with her. He will be missing her for some
time. Eddie’s little girl is taken to
Mercy where a blood transfusion is given her.
(Ed Fretschl is 70 today.) Delivered “Homeless Child” to Rose Lang and
Mrs. John Bart. Norman Brown is on the
job in Oshkosh the first time since his illness about the first of June, he
last called on us May 23d. Had him over
for noon meal and it sure seems like old times.
Thres plays cards at Mame Siewerts –first club meet this fall, she wins
60 cents with 62 points. Tonight she
attends Council Catholic Women.
13. Tuesday: [Buss Baumgartner a boy M 12 M
TVG] Did not attend Kiwanis today.
Art Mueller takes Marianne to Madison where she will enter University of
Wisconsin. I took Kathy Mueller home at
6 Oclock she was waiting for Art at the store, she would have had to wait until
9 Oclock. Thres and me to “Perpetual
Help Devotion” conducted by Dominican Father Sadaus. A very good attendance. Eddie Weisheipl’s little girl is suffering
from R.H. Factor Anemia. She is in an
incubator and is given blood transfusions periodically. She is somewhat improved today.
14. Wednesday: Thres and me took a drive to Neenah
this morning, I had business with George Elevers. George tells me he taught at Marquette
University 4 years, about the time of “First World War.” Dr. Sommers was Dean
of the Pharmacy Course. Fred Baumgartner
tells me he is grandpa again, Buzz had a little boy yesterday. Marine Capt. Richard Mc Cutcheon won the most
fabulous prize in radio and television.
He answered the $64000 Question correctly, this program is sponsored by
“Revlon.” The Vice Pres. of Revlon presented him with the check.
15. Thursday: Had Dinner at Faust Supper Club last
evening and stopped to visit Ed and Maude Labudde at their new home. Ed is getting along well. Ed Jr. from Chicago was with them for a
visit. Stopped at Don’s on the way
home. Debbie had to show her drawings from
school. South Side Business Men’s Club
took a tour through the Deltox Mfg. Company and it sure is interesting.
16. Friday: [Frank Novotny died. Jewish Year 5716 begins.] Rosh Hashanah,
Jewish New Year begins at sundown. Frank
Novotny ex-musician passed away 1.10 A.M. at Mercy. Directed Cadet Band years ago, when Uncle Joe
Weisheipl played with them. Born March
21 – 1877 Austria. Took Ed and Thres
Fretschl to Hi K with us for lobster tail and fish. After that we took them to the Horace Heidt
Show at the South Park Jr. Hi Gym. This
was Ed’s birthday treat. John Stevens
who had been in Sunnyview is released today to be with his family. Martha is employed at our North Store.
17. Saturday: Mother and myself to cottage to pick
apples and check on refrigerator and bring in our summer furniture. Milwaukee Braves had 2131388 paid admissions
in 1954. Will they make the 2 million
mark this year. Tomorrow’s game will
tell the story.
18. Sunday: To 730 Low Mass at Saint
Johns, a Norbertine Father reads the Mass and has an excellent Sermon. At 10 oclock we pick up Joan Schumacher and
leave for Milwaukee. Joan is connected
with the Visiting Nurse Assoc. there.
Her territory is in the negro district, very interesting she
states. We attend the Milwaukee Braves –
St. Louis Cardinals ball game. The
Braves win in the 11th inning two to one.
Warren Spahn pitches. He gets
quite a kick out of striking Stan Musial out several times. It is the last home game for the Braves this
season 35695 paid admissions today. They
also went over the two-million mark for the season – 2005836 to be exact. From there after a tedious ride to town to
McKesson’s open house. Met Ray Trovinger
– Ray Meyer – Frank Hitch. Had a free
meal at Aliotos then home Joan to her apartment, arrived home at 10.40 very
tired.

19. Monday: Norm Brown is with us for noon meal,
he is much interested in our account of the ballgame yesterday. He had given us the four tickets. Rose Weisheipl to Dr. Bill Wagner in regard
to back aches developing of late.
Hurricane Hilda deluged flood stricken Tampico Mexico with new
cloud burst Sunday and send high tides over beach roads as far north as Corpus
Christi Texas. Milwaukee had its 33’d day
of 90°or over weather for this season.
Tom Friedmann passed away yesterday 630 A.M. Columbia
Hospital of injuries received at Elkhart Lake Race Track Sept. 9.
20. Tuesday: [M 9 M] To Kiwanis luncheon, met
Jimmie Yahr from Princeton. He spoke
about his experiences of the InterNational Jamboree at Ottawa Canada. Our table Bob Radford, Tom Schwalm – Bob
Conroy – Les Dahlke –Me. Attended
Cemetery Board Meeting at 7 P.M. at the Cemetery Office. Lengthy drawn out meet on account of passing
of the budget for 1956. From there to
Knights of Columbus meeting. It is a
ladies night with the “Schmitt Brothers” nationally known barbershop
harmonizers doing the entertaining. Don
and Arlene are with us.
21. Wednesday: [M 3 M TG] Maude Labudde is back on the job at our
South Store today. This evening we
attend the Rexall regional dinner and business meeting at the Raulf Hotel. Al Leonard is with us. Kenny Sipersky bring some fresh fish to our
house, and Mrs. sent some Black Raspberry jell.
Dick Milbauer and Mrs. are also at the dinner. Arlene & Don are with us also, they leave
the babies at Felker’s. They leave our
place at 12.15 A.M. Ed and Dess Wirtz
leave with the 7 A.M. plane, for San Francisco.
They will meet Francis and Florence Faust there, after a few days stay,
they will motor back via west coast.
22. Thursday: Joseph Konrath 1745 Doty St. passed
away at 3.30 A.M. at Mercy. Born Dec. 5
– 1893 in Crawford Nebraska. Married
Virginia Steinforth Nov. 16 – 1921. He
was a former signal maintenance man with Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Arthur H Mongin Jr. is manager and partner of
the new “Self Service” “Look Drug Store” 112 East Second Street Kaukauna Wis.,
which opened yesterday after extensive remodeling.
23. When Friday: Joe Baier brings Emma home from
the State Hospital at Winnebago. She is
at a stage where they are unable to do it anymore for her. She has no pains and is apparently much
improved. She should however have more
tests at Madison, which no doubt she will refuse to do. Hurricane “Hilda” left a death toll of 204
and 378 missing as of today, at Tampico Mexico, dead may however run into
thousands.
24. Saturday: President Eisenhower suffers a heart
attack today, we do not know as yet how serious. John F. Konrad, passed away yesterday at 1.20
P.M. at his home. He was in the retail
jewelry business from 1907-1945. Retired
10 years ago. Born in Oshkosh Feb. 17 –
1880. Married Alma Below Jan. 22 – 1907. When he was in business I enjoyed a visit
with him occasionally at his store.
25. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass St.
Vince Father Schorn. Doctors diagnose
President Eisenhower’s heart attack “coronary thrombosis.”
26. Monday: [M 3 M TEG] Eddie Fretschl begins work
at the Roosevelt School. He is one of
the custodians there, Connie Paffenroth was rather put out when Eddie broke the
news to him. He was with Connie ___ years
and a very good worker. Donald and Mary
Ann get physical examinations from Dr. Will Wagner, for insurance purposes. I feel a cold coming on, just lie down at
home this evening.
27. Tuesday: [M 12 M] To Kiwanis luncheon. My cold is not too bad during the day, but
catches me full force by tonite. Could
not attend church service.
28. Wednesday: [M 6 M] Don and Arlene to Milwaukee
to Yahr Lange open house and the children are with us for the day. I took Debbie and Donnie to the P.O. with me,
and Deb to school. Little Markie is very
good. The folks are home at 11.30 P.M.
they had a fine day and met a number of friends. Bob Heinen and Mrs. took them to the “Eldorado”
for dinner. It is on Hi Way 100 at Blue Mound. World Series opener today the Yanks win from
the Dodgers “Brooklyn” 6 to 5.
29. Thursday: [M 9 M] Well the Yankees took the Dodgers
again 4-2. Mother and I take a drive to
the cottage and bring home most of our clothing, and eatables. Also shut off the refrigerator. Its a beautiful moonlight night. Had an accident when I went to bed, my side
of the bed broke down and I tried sleeping on the couch.
30. Friday: [M 3 M] Well I had only a half night
of sleep, but couch did not work out so good, and I could have slept in a nice
bed, but I did not use my coop. Don came
over this afternoon and fixed our bed.
We have our dinner at the Columbus Club.
The Haverty’s are there also. Don
and family spend the evening at our house.
The Oregon Street Merchants have a square dancing in the new parking lot,
but a very slim crowd and too cold weather
