01. Thursday: Little Joan Rozek is in with her
mother to see me in my office, this morning.
02. Friday: Julius
Hagene passed away suddenly this afternoon at his home - 723 15th St. Born
April 7 - 1874 Married Martha Sonnenberg Oct. 22 - 1903. He was custodian
at Smith School for 31 years. Harold Allender is installed as exalted
ruler of the Elks tonite.
03. Saturday: Thres and Mary Ann are at the
marriage ceremony of Elizabeth Lynch and Dr. Gerald Dowling, at St. Peter’s
this morning. This afternoon Thres and
myself attend reception at the Athearn Hotel, with Jack and Pat Faust – Mrs. Ed
–Joe and Mrs. Baranowski. Reception was
from 3 – 5 Oclock. Joe and Cork
Weisheipl orchestra played.
04. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass St.
Vincents then to work from 9 to 1230. Donald also worked. This afternoon helped Thres clean the porch,
living and dining room for tomorrow’s card party. This evening attend the Oshkosh Theatre. “Call North Side 777” a true story starring
James Stewart and Richard Conte –Lee Cobb – Helen Walker, and “The Invisible
Wall.” Both are very good pictures.
Marge Haverty is 34 years of age today.
Joe Weisheipl – her hubby – buys a birthday card for her for me.
05. Monday: Thres has the Ladies Auxiliary (S. S.
business men) at our house today.
Sixteen ladies are here. Emma
Siewert stays here for the evening. This
morning we view the remains of Julius Hagene at
Konrad’s. Anna (Baier) Ostertag gives
birth to a 9 # baby girl this afternoon. Thres Fretschl is 61 today. We will celebrate her birthday later
06. Tuesday: [T] I’m not feeling any too good this
morning. Did not get down to the store
until 2 Oclock this afternoon. We all
viewed the remains of Julia Zarter at Poklasny’s this afternoon, delivered St.
Joseph’s papers to Mrs. Barth and Mrs. Johanna Lang. Then over to Jefferson School to vote. Charles Zarter is 80 years old today.

07. Wednesday: Another package to Germany. Pajamas -1 Skirt -14 Pair Sox – 4 Dresses -1
Jumper -1 pair Shoes -10 Hankies -3 Cans Beans -3 # Spry. Mrs. Julia Zarter is laid to rest this
morning. Its a rainy morning. Monsignor insists on going to the cemetery
for the Zarter funeral and catches himself a cold. Thres and self attend the South Side Business
Mens Auxiliary’s party tonight at St. Vincents Recreation Hall. Earl Clemans shows slides on the early
history of Winnebago County, Eddie Klitzke’s barbershop quartet entertained,
and the finale of the Oshkosh Square Dance Club was really a surprise.
08. Thursday: This evening 5.30 we attend the St.
Vincents Athletic banquet. Guests Dr.
and Elsie Wagner –Zip and Mrs. Schuster –Ed & Rose Binder –Ed and Dess
Wirtz – Ed and Ruth Marheine –Joe Schani –Louis and Rose Koelbl – Vic and Mrs.
Pohajka. Ed Marheine spoke. Sisters also guests.
09. Friday: Took Mary Ann to the Mode tonight and
we surely got our money’s worth for 35 cents each. Three short pictures 2 in color “Fishing
along the Florida Keys” and Lulu in the “Cad and the Caddy ” and “Rubinoff and
his Violin” then two features “Humoresque” with Joan Crawford and John
Garfield. “The Spirit of West Point” is
featuring Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard famous Football players. Very busy at the store. Pay bills today – Post the Books and its also
Pay day.
10. Saturday: Another busy day, pricing
professional and industrial invoices.
Tonite Mary Ann and self visited at Ray Ostertags and saw the new
baby. She is to be baptized tomorrow. Name “Judith Marie” Sponsors Armin Ostertag
and Rose Mauritz. Also visited at Bill
Mauritz’s. Bill is much wrapped up in a
story book and his pipe, so much so he does not see us after we are in the room
with him. His wife Rose has a birthday
today.
11. Sunday: To 730 Low Mass. Father Wagner offers the Mass. Holy Name receive at St. Marys today. Donald and myself could not make it. To work after mass and also this afternoon to
complete mail orders. Worked 5 ½ hours
today. This evening Louis and Mary
Mauritz are here for a visit.

12. Monday: [T] Viewed the remains of John
Pfeiffer at Marquardts. Down to the
store before eight this morning. Norm
Brown and Bob Kniss are here this morning.
Norm is now taking the Dale Carnegie Course in public speaking. Maybe he’ll end up as a preacher.
13. Tuesday: Attend the 4th Degree K C meeting at
the Power Boat Club at Butte des Morts .
Ed Binder was my chauffeur. Forty
one members were present. Had a fine
Turkey Dinner. Father Spaulding was the
speaker.
14. Wednesday: Sisters Virginia and Adelaide are back
for another short stop to say goodbye.
Mrs. Alvin Kelly took them around.
Sister Adelaide has a new Duoflex Camera and we take some pictures, and
of course we hope they will be good. Mr.
Von Wald – La Crosse is here today.
Have’nt seen him since before the war.
He sells Knitolastic Supports.
This evening at Fretschl’s to play cards, and also a belated birthday
celebration for Thres Fretschl.
15. Thursday: The South Side Business Club and
Ladies make a tour thru the Oshkosh Vocational School and The Wertsch Motor Co. The trip through the School is very
interesting but rather tough on me. We
had to climb stairs to the 3d floor. At
the Wertsch Motor, Langkau’s Orchestra plays and refreshments are served. Met a few Kiwanians Judge Lucksinger, Nash Small. Emma Siewert is with us and in pretty happy
mood.
16. Friday: Thres has an appointment with her foot
specialist today. I purchased a
Gabardine Suit at the Continental. Mary
Ann has an appointment with Dr. Will Wagner.
17. Saturday: Another package to the Rothbauers in
Bayern. 1 Girls Suit – 2 Skirts – 1 Dress
3 Jackets 2 Blouses – 2 Ladies Dresses -5 # Sugar 1 # Pond Sugar – 4 Canned Goods. Postage 280. We are busy packing up purchased a new
traveling Case at Bauer’s Luggage. Its a
good sized one.
18. Sunday: [T] To 730 Mass,
when we get home Emma Siewert is here all set to take care of things. Left for Milwaukee at 1100
A.M. arrived 100 P.M.
Donald drives and gets city driving experience. Had Donald Gerth and Joan Mauritz with us. Stopped at Fritz Gust for our meal, enjoyed
it very much, cost daddy 15 bucks Tip 1 buck “Ouch”. Took drive to Carl
and Margarets saw baby James. Little
Gail says “This is a Happy Day” I guess it is for her. Back to the Hotel at 600 P.M. Our Number 2025. Children leave for home and we attend Warner
Theater Movie “To the Victor” with Dennis Morgan and Vivica Lindfors, didnt
care much for it, but enjoyed co-feature “Madonna of the Desert”. Had a sandwich and a Coca Cola and to bed by
1230.

19. Monday: Breakfast
in the Coffee Shop at the Schroeder. Met Doug Hunt, then to the opening of
the Rexall Convention. As President of the Wisconsin Upper Michigan Rexall Club
addressed an assembly of about 200 at the opening 10 Oclock. Ernie Drushke
Welcome from Milwaukee. Luncheon with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Blust, Ed and Mrs.
Ziebarth, Mrs. Bittner, Mrs. Jerry House. Jerry has a Rexall Store back of
Carl and Margarets. After a nap back to the afternoon meeting. Met Mrs. “A.C.”
Till Bond and her niece from Platteville also Ed Kilkenny, Harry Mayer, Oscar ____
from Kenosha, Warren Geers (Milwaukee) Then to the Maryland Hotel for a
George's Special Charcoal “Double Steak.” Our waitress Delores carved it
for us, then back to our hotel for a Movie Rexall Square and
then a Bingo Game. Cash prizes were given 800, 1300,
1500 and the last game was a black out. The prize was 10000.
I spent 500 and got nothing. Took a walk to cool off,
temperature has been over 70 most of the day. Took in “Telenews” for an hour; back to the
hotel at 1145 and after a few night caps we are ready for bed.
20. Tuesday: No breakfast, that big steak is still
with us. Meeting opens at 10 A.M. Al Leonard is on, also Jerry House and Bud Niebauer. Ralph Gelinas gives a very instructive talk
lasted over an hour, then to lunch met Mr. Gray, Ripon Mr. Mrs. Chilson Beloit. Almost forgot I also was on this morning
program to welcome the Illinois delegation, about 150 or more. After meeting, a swell talk on “Why I believe
in Rexall” by Geo. Scharringhausen Jr.
Joe Hailer, Till Bond are on and I close the meeting with the royal
sendoff to Joe Galvin and the rest of the boys from California. We then attend reception in Till Bond’s Suite. Governor Oscar and Mrs. Rennebohm are there,
also Dick and Mrs. Milbauer – Bud & Mrs. Niebauer –Mr. Mrs. Wilbur Bakkis,
a nephew to the Governor. The Governor –
myself and Stumpf try on some of Mrs. Bonds hats, she only has 13 with her. Almost attended the banquet with them on and its
a turkey banquet, lovely Floor Show after the banquet spend the time with
Sylvester Dretzka –Miss Appleton and George Mills in the Cocktail Bar. About 12 midnight finds us ready for bed.
21. Wednesday: [T] Breakfast in the coffee shop
met our S & H Man and his boss Mr. Nelson.
Then to Eastman Kodak Store to see Mr. Forbes, had a very pleasant visit
with him, then to McClurg’s Renee Kimmel takes care of us. They have a fine display, had luncheon at Blatz’s
then back to the hotel. Donald is there
at 3 P.M. then we check out and leave for home.
Stopped at Slinger at Schneider’s for refreshments, arrive home before 6
Oclock and back to work, to relieve Joe Baier.
Art –Marg Mueller and Fred – Loretta Baumgartner leave this afternoon
for tomorrow’s Rexall Meeting. Emma
Siewert leaves for home about 9 P.M.
22. Thursday: Donald and Eddie Weisheipl leave for
Milwaukee this morning, also for the Rexall Convention. We have rain this evening. Donald and Eddie get back about 12.30, they
faced rain most of the way home. They
have much praise for the successful meeting.
23. Friday: Am really back in the ring today with
plenty of work. Caroline Reif (Boka Linei)
passed away this morning at 230 at the home of her daughter
Clara Biebel. Born Germany Aug. 26 –
1861. Rhiny Reifs mother.

25. Sunday: To 730 Mass St. Vincents. Children make their first Holy Communion
today. Father Ott offers the Mass. After breakfast to work for 3 hours. This afternoon took Aunt Mary –Thres – Mary
Ann to Poklasny’s to view the remains of Caroline Reif. The rosary is offered by the Ladies Altar
Society. Took Mary Ann – Joan Mauritz –
Doris Heisler to the Oshkosh. Stopped at
Ray and Ann Ostertags to see the baby.
Thres and self then to cemetery.
Met Mrs. Joe Genal –Mrs. Andy Case – Mrs. Louis Hannes. Aunt Lena’s marker is now on her grave.
26. Monday: To work at 830. Ken Siperski is in, also Bob Kniss – Norm
Brown. Norm is taking the Dale Carnegie
Course. This evening took magazines to
Sisters of Notre Dame. Visited with Sister
Edgar. Donald takes Aunt Mary and Thres
to Ann Ostertags to see the baby.
Caroline Reif is laid to rest today.
Thres attends funeral. Father Leo
Ott offers the Mass.

29. Thursday:
Harry Lyman Jr. is in town from New York.
Phil was with him. Had them at
the house. They are on their way to see
their dad at the County Home. This
afternoon took Mary Ann and Elmer Anderson to the Orthopedic Clinic at Appleton. Dr. Nimms interviewed her. Lois Mitchell is the field worker.
30. Friday: This is a busy day at the store for Ed
Fretschl, our janitor. McClurg’s large
sundry order is in and also three drug orders.
He can hardly get around in the basement, its so chock full of merchandise.
