February 21

1943: "To 7:30 Mass at St. John's, then to work. St. Vincent's basketball team to St. Nazianz to play the Salvatorian Freshman team. Our Donald (son) plays with St. Nazianz. St. Vincent's loses 36-25. This evening we took Ed and Thres Fretchel to the Strand, Seven Days Leave starring Victor Mature, Lucille Ball, also showing Truth or Consequences and Court of Missing Heirs also new comedy star Marcy McGuire. It's a lot of fun." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1955: "Bus fare 15¢ today. Sister Irene called at 7:30 this morning that Aunt Mary was very bad. We arrived at the hospital shortly after, but Mary had passed away. So ends the life of as virtuous and kind a person as I have ever known. Sister said we have an angel in heaven praying for us and I'm sure she's right. I'm kept busy most of the day making arrangements. Father Schorn, Joe Poklasny, Bud Hrnak, Mary Stadler, and pallbearers. Had quite a visit with Rose Stievater, Father's housekeeper. First occasion I had to meet her. Father showed me the improvements they are working on at the parsonage and to church to give me a close up of the new Tabernacle." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
