01. Wednesday: Attended seven oclock mass this
morning. Our “Fall One Cent Sale” begins
today. Took Brother-in-law John Drexler
to “Alexian Brothers” Hospital, this afternoon.
He seems to be contented.
02. Thursday: Ross Rowen is elected “President”
State Teachers Association today.
03. Friday: Bob Gittings is sentence by Judge
Luchsinger to one year in county jail, and then put on probation to me for a
period of 8 months, this means that his sentence is staid providing he serves a
good probation period.
04. Saturday: My birthday today, 49 is the age and
I don’t feel that old. The Heips are
over tonite and we have a game of sheephead and some German Headcheese and beer.

06. Monday: Emma Siewert has a birthday she is 53.

09. Thursday: Chuck Nolan is over to get some of
the Jungen Estate matters settled.
10. Friday: Busy taking
out Red Cross material and enrollment blanks to industries and business places.

12. Sunday: Attended 730 Hi
Mass, then to work.
13. Monday: Mama has a birthday, she is 53 that
she looks sweet 16. The weather is
beautiful, temperature is up to 50. Ed
Fretchel put a new cover on our wash machine, and what a job he had. It took him 3 hours. Thres takes Lena Baier – Anna Weisheipl
14. Tuesday: We close the Jungen Estate Account
this morning in Judge MacDonald’s Court.
15. Wednesday: We visit with Joe and Margaret
Hemmer tonite. Their baby Joseph John is
doing fine.
16. Thursday: Glenn Travers is in town.

19. Sunday: Six oclock Mass then to work. Rev. Michael Drexler stopped in to see us
this afternoon. He also took Thres –
Annie Heip – his mother and Sister Caroline to see John Drexler at Alexian Bros
Hospital. John does not recognize any of
them. Thres is busy at St. Vincent’s
Keno, Annie Heip goes to St. Mary’s. Joe
Heip and I chum together after I get thru working. Joe Baier has his mother and grandmother over
for dinner today.

21. Tuesday: Thres has Mrs. Procknow –Mrs. Joe
Cater – Miss Margaret Klemmer over for a game of sheephead. Cook & Brown hauled two more ton of coal
into our basement.
22. Wednesday: Took a drive to Fond du Lac tonite
with Joe and Anna Weisheipl. On the way
into town, we were held up by a motor officer, who claims we were driving
reckless. We just couldn’t figure it out.
23. Thursday: Had a letter
from Carl Radomski today, he needs 150 dollars to go into business, at
1717 Mitchell Street, Milwaukee. About one half of the U.S.A. are
celebrating Thanksgiving today. Some time ago President Roosevelt
decreed that Thanksgiving Day this year be celebrated Nov. 23d instead of
the 30th as per calendar. Wisconsin is not celebrating today, altho the
cities of Milwaukee and Madison observe today.
24. Friday: Ed Spees “Red Cross Field Man” is in
town. He is satisfied with the work of
our chapter. Our receipts so far are 2150
dollars in the city.

26. Sunday: To six oclock mass as usual, then to
work. In the afternoon view the remains
of Pius Jungwirth at his home. The
Foresters offer the rosary at 3 P.M.
Thres attends bingo party at St. John’s but is not lucky. Thres Fretchel wins a turkey. Ed Fretchel chums with me after work. After the Bingo Party the ladies engage me in
3 handed sheephead, I win 2 games.
Visited Anna and Lena Drexler this afternoon. Father Stern goes deer hunting.
27. Monday: Thres attends Bingo Party at the
Eagles Club. She wins 100. I attend Foresters Meeting after work at the
Argonne Hall and get in some “Hasenpfeffer.” Father Bastian is in this morning
to see me a vote Joe Jungen getting married.
Larry Gerdes is in town. Took
Thres –Annie Heip –Mrs. Anna and Betty Drexler to Alexian Bros. Hospital to see
John Drexler. He is not improve any. He knows us at times for just a moment.
28. Tuesday: Attended funeral of Pius Jungwirth
this morning. Thres goes to another
Bingo Party at St. Mary’s Hall. She’s
getting to be a regular bum? Four Bingo
parties in one week, that’s going some.
Ed Steckbauer, our former neighbor, leaves today for Milwaukee to obtain
treatment at the Veterans Hospital.

30. Thursday: We
celebrate Thanksgiving today. It is a
nice day, temperature around 40°.
Visited at John Drexler’s Home, Father Michael is in town visiting his
father at Alexian Bros., John has contracted cold. We met Father Roder at the Drexler home. He is pastor at St. Mary’s in Kaukauna were
Father Michael is assistant. Visited at
Lena Baier’s also. Grandma is there. Ray Ostertag and family are there, also Joe Baier’s
wife Emma and her daughter, Faye. Russia
opens War on Finland. Russia air raid
kills about 200 people at Helsingfors [Blogger’s note: The English name for Helingfors is Helsinki.], and parts of the city are on fire.
