1934: "Took a drive today and brought home a little boy and girl, Donald and Marianna by name. Had dinner at home and then out to the cottage. The Fretchels are having a good time at the cottage. They were very much surprised at the increase in our family as were also Joe and Anna Weisheipl and Bill and Emma Siewert who came out to visit us in the evening. We had quite an array of fireworks for the children and they got quite a kick out of that. Kept Leonard and Robert Fretschl overnight to stay with the children." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1936: "The Rexall Train is in town from 9 to 11:45 A.M. We had a record crowd going thru the train, 6530 people in 2 ¾ hours. Went to the cottage in the afternoon had plenty of company, The Steckbauer family, The Wesiheipls, The Kujawas, The Radomskys, Anna Drexler and Lena. 15 Adults 7 Children. Fireworks in the evening." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1940: "A lovely day, there are no fireworks allowed in the city of Oshkosh this Fourth, the first time since the Fourth has been celebrated here. Bob Brand and Harry Janko got a lovely mess of perch this morning. Bob and Ed Fretschl tried early this morning; they only got one pickerel. Ed Fretschl Jr. and Miss Ilk are out with us for dinner. Had a fine display of fireworks in the evening for nearly 2 hours. Then more sheephead with the ladies, got to bed at 2:30 A.M. These night sessions are getting me. Joe and Anna Weisheipl take a trip to Cornell, Wis. to visit Joe's brother Frank Weisheipl." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
