1937: "Temperature is at 92°. Took Thres to town and picked up motor from Clark & Lunds. Took the kids up for a swim. The first dip in the lake for me this year. 1940: "Six o'clock Mass this morning and then to work. St. Vincent's Picnic at South Park. The weather is very nice until 6 o'clock when a bad shower dispersed most of the crowd. Mueller Potter Employees and Elmer Salzieder's delivery boys have an outing at Mr. Mueller's cottage on Fahrney's Estate. I drove out for a few hours stay in the afternoon. Joe and Annie Heip return from Cornell tonite. A reception was tendered to Rev. Charles Lange Pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in honor of his 40th anniversary in the ministry." [from A. E. 1946: "To 7:30 Mass at St. John's then to work. After a short nap took Joe-Annie Weisheipl, Aunt Lena, Thres to the Strand. See two "Jesse James" pictures. Jesse James stars Tyrone Power, Henry Fonda, Nancy Kelly, Randolph Scott. The Return of Frank James stars Henry Fonda, Gene Tierney. Stopped at the Heips for a few minutes this afternoon, met Frank Drexler's wife who came over from England about a week ago. After the theatre I work until 11 o'clock, then cards to 1 A.M. and took the folks home." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
