1933: "This is a big day for the homecoming celebration. Governor Schmedeman is here. Attended reception for the Governor at the legion club house at noon and also the banquet in his honor at the Raulf Hotel in the evening. Ryan Duffy Senator, and Congressman Michael Riley were there also. Virginia Keefe, Homecoming Queen gets a hundred dollar check. The parade in the afternoon is very beautiful but a sudden storm puts the floats out of commission and roues the crowds watching. It hailed in some parts of town. It lasted about 15 or 20 minutes but did plenty of damage. [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1939: "Took a a drive to Appleton this afternoon. Played golf at he Butte des Morts Club, the first game in a good many years. It was fun. Played with Norm Brown, Bob Gray - Ripon, Lester Damsteeg - Waupun, John Gallagher - Shawano, Fred Schlintz - Appleton. " [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1957: "Got a new house number today. It is now 403 instead of 703. Bill Hesser died last evening 7:30 at Mercy, death was unexpected. I talked to Bill yesterday afternoon at the South Store, asked how he is, not too good. Learned later he had a prescription for nitroglycerine tablets. He had a heart condition for some time. Agnes Embs is in this evening to order some items or 40 hours coming up in September. She tells me Father Bunkleman had cartilage removed in his neck July 30th. He suffered egg poisoning after Easter two years ago, and not too long ago he had calcium in his heels, his heart is not too good. What next?" [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
