01. Tuesday: [T] John
Yonan brings a new rug for our bedroom. He tells much about Iran.
Primary Elections today. John Rozek is home from the hospital today. He
had been confined since one week from yesterday. Mary Ann votes for the first
time today.
02. Wednesday: [R 4 M] Visited Uncle Joe twice
today. Brought some Lourdes water for
him. He is up quite a bit now and also
tries to walk. Visited with Don – Arlene
and Debbie tonite. We have snow today
and this evening. John Fitzgerald is
elected school commissioner and so is Milton Seefeldt. Senator Robert A Taft wins 24 of the 30
Republican state delegates in Wisconsins primary.
03. Thursday: It is still trying to snow tho the
snow melts almost as fast as it comes down.
Tomorrow April 4th is Vivian Millers birthday. She will be 40.
04. Friday: [R 4 M] A sad accident occurred last
night at about 9 Oclock. John Kronzer,
son of Dr. Fred Kronzer was riding south on Bowen St. near Irving on his
bicycle when he was struck from behind by a panel truck driven by Norman
Walters and was killed almost instantly.
Born Aug. 19 – 1938 – 8th Grade St. Marys student. Norm is 46.
Visited Uncle Joe this noon. Took
Aunt Annie Heip –Thres and Mary Ann to see “Quo Vadis” at the Strand. Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr star, then to
Rustys Club 345 for fish and shrimp.
05. Saturday: [T] Thres Fretschl can retire as of
today. Why? because she is 65, but I don’t think she
will. Uncle Joe Weisheipl’s family get a
Philco Television Set a present from Matt.
Thres and me attend the K.C. Boxing Show at the South Park Jr. High
School Gym.
06. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass by
Father Wagner. Monsignor Bastian assists
at the blessing of the Palms. It’s a
beautiful day. Katherine Mueller is
confirmed. Father Alphonse Wagner drops
in for an hour and a half this afternoon.
Playoffs at K.C. Club of the Council of Cath. Women’s Sheephead
tournament begin at 6 Oclock with the Ham Supper. We meet many of our friends. After the meal a number of Knights repair to
Fiss & Bills to recite rosary for Johnnie Kronzer and Ben Ruscka. Then back to the club house for cards. I play at #1 Table with Mrs. Hollands – Mrs.
Tsesch –Herb Kitz (blind). Mrs. Hollands
had 51 points. I 42. She wins 13 dollars. I win 10 dollars, Otto Lemke won 50 cents.

07. Monday: Another card from the Brown’s. Attend Kiwanis directors meeting this
noon. Harry Hanisch is going into a new
insurance venture and is resigning temporarily. To 645 Mass
this morning Father Wagner.

08. Tuesday: Another beautiful day. To Mass at 645 Father
Milbauer. To Kiwanis luncheon with Ed
Ledvina. Clarence Kelley, 10th St. Methodist Church spoke on Easter Faith. He also explained why women are beautiful and
dumb? Tonight I attended K.C.
Stockholders meeting. New directors for
three years John Ludwig –Harold Seal – Roy Martin. A beautiful day, Thres cleaned up our lawn
and shrubbery. Mary Ann gets home at

09. Wednesday: To 645 Mass. Father Wagner. Ken Sepersky shows a movie on Ann Delafield
reducing treatment. Had some heavy rains
this afternoon. Visited Uncle Joe this
noon. Gerry Voght is here to visit
him. Joe talks quite well today. Norm and Sybelle are in this afternoon on
their way home. They both look
swell. They bought a monkey on the way
home. Government takes over the
country’s steel industry today, to avert steel strike.

10. Thursday: To church at 700 Oclock. No Mass at 700. Rose Mauritz has a birthday today. She has hit the half century mark.

12. Saturday: Thres to Mass – gets a quart of
Easter Water. The weather is cold and we
have a light snow most of the day.
Walter Jennerjahn visits with me about 1 ½ hours. He is back from Corpus Christi Texas where he
spent his winter vacation. He brings
greetings from Sister Virginia, she is on diet suffering with ulcers. Carl Schmidt – business manager Winnebago
State Hospital, died suddenly 110 this morning of a heart
attack. He was one of our brother
Kiwanians, chairman of the Ag Committee –and former president during 1950. Born in Denmark Sept. 13 – 1883, came to
Oshkosh in 1927 from Milwaukee. Married
Barbara Koennecke May 29 – 1909.
Survived by daughter Helen Forsythe of Chicago.
13. Sunday: To 730
Hi Mass with Holy Name - Father Wagner. This is a day we will remember for some
time. It is either rain or snow all the day. In fact it had rained most of
the night. Mary Ann and self work this morning and this evening. We have our
noon meal at the Athearn and then to Mercy Hospital to see Aunt Mary.
She is not improving any. Had quite a visit with Sister Irene about Joe Rieger.
After work
tonite I phoned Milwaukee. Talked to Carl, Marge, Leona, Annie.

14. Monday: [R 4 M] Weather is clearing this
afternoon. Visited Uncle Joe this
evening. He is looking much better. Ed Fretschl is there also. He brought some canned goods for the
folks. Mary Ann – Thres and me attend St.
Vincents Holy Name Potluck supper.
Program by St. Vincents students.
It’s a well attended social gathering.
Joe Hensmer for tells me some news.
His boys play a piano duet. The
Mississippi and Missouri rivers are above flood level in many places and many
people have had to leave their homes.
15. Tuesday: [T] A beautiful day. Attended funeral services for Carl Schmidt
this morning at Mallery Seefeldts. Rev.
Al Lindgren conducted the services.
About 50 Kiwanians attended. Then
on to Kiwanis luncheon at the Raulf. No
program. I win a prize. Sam Lucksinger is the birthday boy and I get
some hankies. This evening took a drive
to the cottage, dropped in to see Joe Nebl.
Then to hear “Apollo Singers” at the Grand. Edwin Steffe, Baritone, is guest artist. He is not only a singer, but a gracious
actor. Fishing season opens at midnight.
16. Wednesday: [R 4 M] To the courthouse to see
Vern Peroutky county agent and also Clarence Westphal, Four H. leader about
future plans for the Kiwanis Ag Committee.
Temperature is close to 70° today.
This evening, belated birthday party at Fretschl’s for Thres. Emma Miller –Siewert – Lemke is feeling way
above par. She lost a quarter to me on a
bet and then tried to wiggle out of it.
She did’nt. Cork Weisheipl has a
new Buick, 1947 model, owned by Dr. Hugo.
A good buy. Saw Uncle Joe also.
17. Thursday: Another nice day temperature up to
70°. Mary Ann took Joan Mauritz to hear
“Apollo Male Singers” last night.

19. Saturday: Louis Schriber, President of the
First National Bank died at 6 Oclock this morning, operated Tuesday
evening. Had been visiting in
California. Born April 7 – 1878. Began working as messenger in 1896. I’m working in the basement of the South Store
today. This evening to the Oshkosh to
see “With a Song in my Heart” the “Jane Froman” story (a true story). Susan Hayward as “Jane Froman” Rory Calhoun
as “John Burns” Dave Wagner as “Don Ross” Thelma Ritter as “The Nurse.”
“Darling How Could You” is a riot with “Joan Fontaine” “mother” John Lund
“Father” Mona Freeman and Peter Hanson “the Children.”
20. Sunday: To 730 Mass Father
Wagner spoke on “Fraternal Correction.” A very delightful day. Temp is up to 78°. Worked this morning and back right after
dinner to complete orders and mail them.
Mary Ann and myself to Mercy Hospital to visit Aunt Mary, had a talk
with Sister Irene, then a drive to Riverside Cemetery. Lots are pretty well cleaned up out
there. Marge Haverty and Joe Weisheipl
are married 13 years today. I delivered
fresh rye bread (one loaf) one hunk cake and 1/5 Brandy to Uncle Joe this
morning. Adolph Hitler would be 63
today.
21. Monday: [T] Art Hazen’s mother passed away
Sat. afternoon 330 at Mercy.
She had been very ill the last week.
Born July 11 – 1885 in Oconto. We
attend rosary tonight at Fiss Bills. Our
neighbor Bill Brusius is passed away Sat. 345 A.M. at
Mercy. Born June 24 – 1880. Married Minnie Peerenboom December 5 – 1909
at Appleton. We view the remains
tonight. Leona Luecke passed 730
THS morning at Mercy. Born June 28 –
1899. Employed as book keeper at
Buckstaffs since 1918. She was a very
good and St.ly person.
22. Tuesday: Funeral services for Mrs. Hazen at 9
Oclock St. Marys. I represented our
company as well as our family. To
Kiwanis luncheon. Had Harvey Lohst as my
guest. Bryan Wilson traffic engineer AAA
spoke on parking problems. Attended
rosary tonight for Leone Luecke. Father
Wagner led in prayer. Father Murphy is
at the Hospital for Minor Surgery. Also
viewed the remains of Ferdinand Reichenberger at Sitters.
23. Wednesday:
Theresa Botz is in the store this afternoon.
She tells me today is her birthday.
She is 61. Thres attends card
party of the “Council of Catholic Women” at St. Vincents Gym. Court Whist is played. Donald and family are over tonite. We splice some more film. Find film of Don’s Wedding which I thought
was lost. Debbie and me pick up Grammy
Potter at St. Vincents Church. Debbie is
still wide awake at 1 A.M. when the folks leave for home
24. Thursday: To Mercy Hospital to see Sister Laurentia,
find she is out of the city. John Bauer
died at Alexian Brothers Hospital at 315 yesterday afternoon. Born Dec. 14 – 1893. Father is John Bauer 743 -12 Sisters Mary
Mauritz –Mrs. Joe Grable –Mrs. John Tyriver –Caroline Bauer –Brothers Matt and
Eddie Bauer. We attend rosary tonight at
Sitters. Lydia (Mrs. Roy) Otto passed
away at Mercy Hospital this morning at 115. Born Feb. 8 – 1892. Married Roy Otto in 1916. She bought the F.W. Mueller home some time
back, had Mr. Mrs. Al Schulz living with her for a time.
25. Friday:
[T] Thres and I attend rosary for Marg Howe at Marquardts tonight. Father Bunkleman and his housekeeper Agnes Embs
are laid up with what may be ptomaine poisoning. They ate some colored Easter Eggs Wednesday
afternoon about 5 and at 8 Oclock they became violently ill. Tomorrow is Elizabeth Brandt’s last day with
us. She has accepted a position with Schroeder’s
on Jackson St. She will be replaced by Margaret Beck.
26. Saturday: Joe and Anna Mauritz – Bills parents
are celebrating their golden wedding today.
Margaret Howe is laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. Father Wagner has the service, and I am one
of the pallbearers. Worked the rest of
the morning. This afternoon to the
Cottage with Thres. Took off the storms,
washed screens – Ma washed windows and I put screens on. Don and Billy Mauritz put storms up in
boathouse. Bob Brand and family are out
also with a crew to put in extra long dock and also screen windows. Tonite we are at Mauritzs for golden wedding
celebration
27. Sunday: Marianne Mueller is 18 today. To 730
Mass Father Milbauer. He spoke
on intolerance. Children’s Choir sings
Hi Mass. Visited Uncle Joe after
breakfast. He is showing much
improvement. I was out preaching again,
telling Aunt Annie and Joe not to worry.
Today is a marvelous date, temp. is up to 81° at 1230. Aunt Annie tells me about Mary Schneider
going to confession to Father Berg and getting mad in the confessional. That was funny. Mary got mad because she did’nt remember how
many times she got mad. Ha! Ha! This afternoon we visit Aunt Mary at the
hospital. I also visited Caroline
Drexler –Father Bunkleman – Agnes is housekeeper. They are about ready to go home. Also visited with Sister Kunigunda and a few
words with Sister Irene. Worked tonite
also wrote to Father Gerold Walker. Quit
smoking today temporarily
28. Monday: [R 2 M] Another beautiful day,
temperature did go up to 83° yesterday.
Had Norm Brown over this noon to help us get rid of some of our
leftovers from yesterday. Thres plays
cards at Louise Zentner’s today. She
gets 20¢ last prize. Joe Fenzl took the
ladies out and back home and this evening he has a heart attack.
29. Tuesday: Attended 4th Degree meeting last
night and received a special award, a past Navigators. To Kiwanis luncheon today. Bill Petrie and Gordon Hough – Pete Beck are
with us to stimulate interest in the Oshkosh Baseball Club, also sold Booster
Buttons. I get 4 judges for 4 H Speakers
Contest: Earl Clemens – Clarence Kelly – Louis Lyons –Mrs. Frank Schultz. Received a letter from Resi Rothbauer today.
30. Wednesday: [R 2 M] Mailed package to Germany
today -2 of my suits – some dresses – bed sheets and many ties. Price of mailing 280. Stopped in to see Uncle Joe and brought him a
birthday present. This afternoon Thres
and myself work at the cottage, begin cleaning up inside, also take out the
bedding.
