01. Saturday: [T] A
very mild day. Had our "Bring Christ Back to Christmas" parade;
it is very impressive altho the floats traveled much too fast. Arlene
takes Debby to the Junior Forester party. She is very much afraid of
Santa.
02. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass – Fr
Wagner. We are having mild weather these
days, temperature up in the 50’s. This
is Annie Weisheipl’s birthday, she is 69 and feeling fine, just a bit worried
about Joe. Ed –Thres Fretschl – Emma –
Otto Lemke, Thres and self are here to celebrate tonite. Joe stays up with us and took a few brandies,
he is improving day by day.
03. Monday: [R 4 M] Another mild and cloudy day,
temperature up to 55° degrees. St.
Vincents Ladies and Alter Society, Christmas Party. Ma reports it to be exceptionally good. Judy Stillman Revue – plus Christmas Carols –
Plus Catherine Stini in special Monologue “Miss Primm’s XMas Shopping.”
04. Tuesday: To Kiwanis luncheon, we all signed
the “Golden Book ” given to Hugo Riese for his golden wedding anniversary. Russ Williams – Wes Schneider – Milt Seefeldt
– Ozzie Witte and Al Potter at table.
Out to see Mary Girens in regard to letter for Jerry – to bring about
his release if possible. Thres to
S.S.B.M0. Auxiliary Christmas Party tonight.
Dick Hansen is now plainclothes man with the police dept. He is in to see me this morning about Marvin
Eberhardt.
05. Wednesday: [R 4 M T] We awaken late this morning 9.15
and the reason for that is, Mother could not sleep until about 4 A.M. Well its just another day of work. An unusual accident happened in Chatham
England when a double decker bus drove into about 50 marching cadets, killing
21 outright. It was a gruesome sight
according to eyewitnesses. The driver of
the bus was to receive the safe drivers award tomorrow for 25 years of no
accident driving. Tonight we are at the
Grand to hear Appollo Male Chorus.
06. Thursday: Saw Uncle Joe again yesterday he
shows more improvement. This is Les
Borisch’s birthday, I think he’s 48.
07. Friday: Les Borisch’s birthday is celebrated today
by our Canasta Club at the Columbus Club.
Walter Dodd and I had to work until 9 P.M. arrived at 925,
had a nice fish and lobster tail meal.
At 12 midnight we begin to play cards 6 Canasta –Ed Binder – Walter – Ed
Wirtz and I played cribbage until 130 A.M.
08. Saturday: To 8 Oclock Mass this morning, I’m
pretty tired.
09. Sunday: To 730 Mass St.
Vincents. This is Arlene’s birthday she
is 21. She comes in this morning with
Debbie, not knowing this to be her birthday I did not congratulate her. I hope I did not offend.
10. Monday: [R 4 M] Norman Brown and Bob Kniss are
in for their weekly call. Gave Bob the
_____ order, one that should put him over the top for this year. Took Thres – Emma Siewert –Mary Fenzl to
Ostertag’s tea room. The SSBM Auxiliary
have their party there. Agnes Hazen
waits on table. Mary Ann and me have a
nice luncheon at Town Grill, with Norm and Bob.
Norm pays the freight.

13. Thursday: Am busy getting things in shape at
the store early this morning, a bright cold day 1° below zero. Father Wagner phones at 8 A.M. if I wish to
go to Milwaukee this morning. We leave
at 945 with Elsie Wagner and Helen Deniger. At suggestion by A.E.P. we stopped it Millers
Café Menominee Falls for luncheon. Then
on to the city, first stop at Yahr Lange.
Father and the ladies are interested in luggage, while I buy last minute
XMas items, then we leave the ladies for shopping while I stop at M.D. Crum’s
on Plankinton, meet Joe Schimwel who waited on me, and is acquainted with a
housekeeper Father knows, then to South Supply Company, then to Broadway Church. Alex is glad I came in, he wanted to see me,
then to McClurgs, then to Ed Paluka’s then to Carl & Margarets, Carl is
feeling fine after operation, then to Sacred Heart San. Father Schaefer, meet
Sister Nicoletta and

16. Sunday: To 730 Mass.
17. Monday: To Kiwanis Directors meeting in the
Blackmore room at the Athearn. The
meeting was much interrupted by their Rotarian Christmas Party
18. Tuesday: We visit Aunt Mary today. A Mrs. Felkers mother is also confined in the
same room. Mrs. Felker reads for Aunt
Mary and makes her comfortable. We had a
lengthy visit with Monsignor Bastian.
Both Josephine and Madeline change off staying with him. St. Vincents Carolers are at the hospital
today. The Monsignor had tears in his
eyes when they sang several hyms for him.
19. Wednesday: Father Wagner to Mt Mary to bring
home Eileen Wirtz. It is snowing again,
our street was cleaned today. Tonite at
Shenar’s for our Christmas Party. Father
Wagner is our chauffeur. Dr. Wm
Wagner and daughters also there but not in our party. Met Art Abraham – Ozzie (Nelson) Witte. After the dinner we drive to Les Borisch’s to
exchange presents. Dess Wirtz presents
me with a plastic Fire Chief hat. Home
at 1230. Carl Fretschl
leaves for California today to visit with his sister Marion at Santa Clara. Thres Fretschl has another narrow escape from
burns, when she lit her new gas stove.
She had shut it off partially previously and escaping gas ignited blowing
O the draws in the stove.
20. Thursday: Took 1 ½ hours of exercise shoveling
sidewalks. Jim Green and Rosalie Smith
take me along to “Fair Trade Meeting” at Fond du Lac. Congressman Von Pelt attends. Met Jennings Murphy explained “Fair Trade.”
Also met Joe Leider – Clay Stearns.
21. Friday: It is still snowing today.
22. Saturday: Got
more exercise shoveling sidewalks today, at least 1 1/2 hours. My job
today is wrapping Christmas presents to be given to the Doctors. Wrapped
about 130 packages.
23. Sunday: To 730 Mass St.
Vincents Father Milbauer spoke on “Faith.”
24. Monday: [R 4 M] Brrr its cold this morning 17°
below and we deliver Christmas presents to the doctors homes and also our
special friends, such as Monsignor Bastian and household – the Sisters –Fr
Murphy. We are very busy at the store,
close at 6 P.M.
25. Tuesday: We are having a lovely white
Christmas, more snow and somewhat warmer.
We attend midnight Mass. Don and
Arlene are there also. Father Wagner
celebrant – Father Milbauer sermon. To
work at 10 A.M. Stopped at Bob Kniss’s a
few minutes. Don and family are with us
this noon and spent the afternoon with us.
They also visited Aunt Mary. This
evening we view the remains of William Radtke, had quite a visit with Mrs. They
were our old neighbors. Edna (Mrs.
George E. Anderson) had been nursing both Dad and Mother. George tells me Edna had a mild case of Polio
altho she herself does not know it. She
does limp a little. From there out to
Uncle Joe and Aunt Annie. Joe looks good. Home at 11.30 PM.

27. Thursday:
Sister Linus arrives in town this morning.
Ed Fretschl and I met her at the deposit. Kiwanis installation of officers today, and
also Ladies day. Earl Clemens did the
installing. Zola Miller is our new
President. I was elected a Director. Our table Bud and Mrs. Menzel –Bob and Mrs.
Conroy – Thres and myself. After the
meeting to Mercy Hosp. to see Aunt Mary.
Find that Caroline Drexler was taken there this morning, she may have
what is either kidney or bladder stone.
Frank Boettcher is also there for a checkup.
28. Friday: [R 2 M] We are invited to Bob Kiss
home tonite. Norm and Sybelle Brown, Geo.
and Helen Duffy – Hi Egan and Mrs. are also there. After a number of “Manhattans” it turns out
to be quite a party, and Mary Kniss sure knows how to prepare lobster.
29. Saturday: Well,
I'm getting ready for the wind-up. Beginning to figure out Social
Security and withheld Income Taxes for the employees. Francis Lamb is
over this afternoon for a two hour conference. This evening is spent
at Donald's. Arlene has done her utmost to have things in order.
Father Wagner stops in for an hour's visit.
30. Sunday: To 730 Hi Mass St.
Vincents. Father Wagner speaks on
infidelity and apostasy. Worked all
morning. This afternoon we visit Aunt
Mary, also Caroline Drexler the doctor has not been able to remove stone from
her. Frank and Betty are with her. I also dropped in to see Gus Klotzbuecher, he
is to stay one month, has a blood clot.
Met Sisters Laurentia and Emmelia.
31. Monday: This is another busy day at the store. Am still working on Social Security and Income
Withholding. It is a very warm day
temperature between 37 and 40°. Donald
shovels the snow and breaks up the ice on the roof of our house. The roof leaks onto the porch and also the
south west bedroom walls are streaked with sooty water. The paint comes off the back of the house. Thres and I stop at Fretschl’s to say goodbye
to Sister Linus. This evening after work
we are there again with the Weisheipls to see the old year out and the new year
in. This is Joe Heip’s first venture out
for cards, and he does pretty well. We
took them home at 130 AM.
