01. Friday: [3 R] We are back in town this
afternoon. Had a surprize visitor this afternoon. Father Dennis Cooney, is with me for an hour
at the office. He has been near Camden
New Jersey the last six years. Has built
up an entirely new school, has about 100 students. The new seminary has a nice chapel downstairs
and is visited by quite a number of people for short time adoration. The Salvatorians have 478 acres of property.

03. Sunday: [1 R
T] To 730 Mass Father Milbauer. Spoke about Joan of Arc. Donald Arlene – Billy Mauritz and Jean spend
the day at Madison and “Cave of the Mounds.” Their first visit to the Capitol. I take Annie Weisheipl along to the cottage
this noon. Her first time there this
summer. She is pretty much tied down
with Uncle Joe. Thres and Annie had a
good cry when they met. This afternoon
the Lemke’s and Fretschl’s also come.
04. Monday: [1 R] Rose
Weisheipl back on the job after two weeks vacation. Earl Fuhs makes his first
official call as Lilly representative. This afternoon took Father Murphy with
me to the St. Lawrence College. Alumni meet at Mt. Calvary. Had the pleasure of
meeting Mons. John Dopp, Fort Wayne, Indiana a classmate whom I have not seen
since I left Mt. Calvary 45 years ago. Most of the boys that usually come were
there. Had a nice visit with Rector Father Gerald Walker also met Rev.
Provincial Father Cyprian Abler. In the evening met Father Sylvester Brielmaier
whom I had visited in Rome in 1950. The evening is spent in visiting and
singing. Home at 11 P.M.
05. Tuesday: Back
to Mt. Calvary this morning in time for Memorial Mass at 10 Oclock. More
classmates there this morning: Leo Sharp, Stubby Diederich, George Heinen -
Millbank, S. Dakota, Stan Wolchowiak, Jack Quella, John Dopp. Others: Father
Jos. Rauch, Ed Wagner, Ed Bonney from Lowell, Indiana. Employees of 4 City
Depts. are out on strike today. Affected are Incinerator, Park, Cemetery and St.
Crew.
06. Wednesday: [1 R] Took Emma back to town. This afternoon Father Michael Drexler – Stan Demboviak
and family – Alois Mugerauer – Esther and family are with us to spend the aft
and evening. I took the folks out for
boatrides – the girls and little ones also were to the Sand dock for swimming,
then a wiener roast at the lake. Weather
ideal no flies to bother us. Father – Al
– and me when fishing for a half hour, not even a nibble. Then cards at the cottage, folks go home at
9.30. Father stays for a special visit
until 12.50 A.M. and I’m very tired.
Merle Giddings, Mutual Drug Salesman who calls on us is married 38 years
today.
07. Thursday: [TEG] Matt Mertz’s crew begin
working on our roof today. It is going
to be chocolate color, much heavier than the old one, and Matt claims it will
last 40 years and no more leaks.
08. Friday: [1 R] We are married 41 years today. No celebration, but I do take Ma – Mary Ann
to Otto’s Hi K for a special Fish and Lobster tail dinner. A different day from when we were married,
rain and thunder storms tonight, when we were married a beautiful summers day
and a lovely night.
09. Saturday: Have to make a recommendation on
application of Margaret Killilea 76 Ashland and to work in the Publishing
Department Salvatorians Fathers St. Nazianz Wis. Joe Biebl has our picnic Table ready and
Donald takes it out to the cottage this afternoon. We visit Aunt Mary this evening at the
hospital, then to visit Uncle Joe Weisheipl.
He is doing well, I visited with him in the bedroom, while Thres gets
into a bingo game with the ladies.
10. Sunday: To 730 Holy Name
Mass, Father Wagner then to work. Took
Thres to cottage at 10.30, back to work, made out orders, then to Post office,
then to Fiss and Bills to pay last respects to Margaret Holland. Art –Agnes – Carol – Jean Hazen, Edward –
Florence – Bobby – Tommy Weisheipl spend the day at the cottage. The children had a real picnic, with boat
ride – wading, they call it swimming.
Bobby and Tommy were shivering cold, but they wanted to stay in the
water. After a big wiener roast they are
all tired and ready for home at 8 P.M.

11. Monday: [2 R] Norm Brown is in this morning,
tells me he was in the hospital last week.
He had some prostrate trouble but not too serious. Father Leo Sharp is in to see me, but I was
out. Tonite we have a meeting at the
South Store it in regard to our lease at the North Store, also to plan for
improvements there.
12. Tuesday: [4 R] To Kiwanis luncheon. Lee Miller representing “Four Wheel Drive Co”
shows pictures of what these trucks can do.
O.R. Jones got a present from Joe Drasal O.R. said it was an old worn
necktie, with soup stains. Thres has
company today –Vees Haveman – Joe Nolte – Mame Siewert – Emma Lemke. Dick Booth 412 23d St. passed away this
afternoon at 2.15 at his home. He had
cancer. Played cards with us at home
during the sheephead tournament in winter.
Born in Fergus Minn. June 23 – 1904.
13. Wednesday: [2 R] Marion Weisheipl has a
birthday. I’m kept rather busy today. Drove to Berlin to see Harry Kujawa, then
took him along to Wautoma to look over the building we were interested in. 12000 is the asking price, Harris says its
worth 9000. Well, I get back by 11.30
took Emma Lemke back to town. Armin Knoop
is at the store with the bids for the addition at the West Store. Tonite Donald and family visit us. It is rather cool all day today. Ed and Rose Binder leave for Denver today.
14. Thursday: [2 R] Thres has Sacred Heart Bingo
Club at the cottage, present Mary Schneider – Rose Miller –Anna (Mrs. John)
Drexler –Emma Heppler –Johanna Miller – Annie Weisheipl – Thres Fretschl –Mrs.
Matt (Katie) Duex – Clara Andrashko.
Paid last respects to Dick Booth, met his parents Mr. Mrs. Samuel Booth
Grand Forks Minn – His son Richard Decatur Ill, looks just like his dad, tall
and handsome. Dick married Laverne Pagle
Sept 19 – 1939. They had one son Terry.

16. Saturday: George (Corky) Weisheipl’s birthday. He is 43.
Stopped in this noon to congratulate him. We sang “Happy Birthday.” Cork had tears in
his eyes and so did Aunt Annie. To see
Aunt Mary this afternoon. She is about
the same. Asks if its cold out (Its a
nice warm day) Learn the Walter Dodd is in 230.
Stopped in to see him. He was
brought in by Dr. Kronzer Friday. Said
he feels fine, expects to be home Monday or Tuesday. Sister Irene tells me about being on duty in
Marshfield for six weeks, 24 hours a day in the isolation ward with 12 patients. She was the only one on duty. Ma and self drove to Riverside Cemetery after
we left hospital. Saw something
different, a man washing his car in the cemetery. Stopped at Karl and Boots Penzenstadlers for
meats. Tonite to Strand. Saw “Brave Warrior” with John Hall –Christine
Larson –Jay Silverheels, also “Desert Pursuits” with Wayne Morris – Virginia Grey.
17. Sunday: Another beautiful day. To 730
Mass. Father Milbauer, Sermon on “How to
be Happy,” mostly about guarding our language.
Worked the morning and evening, getting out orders. This afternoon we attend Foresters picnic on
John Matayka’s farm. A fair attendance –
Thres wins two rings of sausage on bingo.

18. Monday: [T] To 645 Mass
(Requiem) Matt Baier family. Took Mary
Ann and Joann Mauritz to depot to take 756 train to Milwaukee. We are back at the cottage tonight, just ma
and me. Mertz completes the roof job on
our house today.

19. Tuesday: To Kiwanis Luncheon. Bob Conroy gave his experiences about his
trip to England.
20. Wednesday: Dollar Day in Oshkosh today. Took Thres down this morning. Had some keys made for our back door, I lost
mine yesterday (thats what I thought) found this morn Donald had it. Had a thank you card from Beatrice Wall today. Drove to Appleton to Kiwanis luncheon. Tommy Atkins spoke. Marty Knauer took us out in his boat after
the luncheon. Us means Norm Brown –
Sybelle Tommy – Ruth –Mr. Spencer. Took
us from Appleton to Neenah. Learn that
Donna (Marty’s Wife) is a sister to Mrs. Eck Stoegbauer. Donald and Family out to visit us at the
cottage tonite. Had Fritzie Mertz with
them.

23. Saturday: Somewhat cool this morning, turns
out a nice day. Otto Lemke is in to get
his bearings about getting around in Milwaukee.
Took a drive this afternoon to Ripon then on to Berlin, stopped it Harry
Kujawa as, find he is cashier at an auction near Koro. Played 2 hands of Canasta Mary and Mother
against Mary Ann and me. Score 4300 for
us 1335 for them. When Harry get some,
we take them out to dinner at “Norton’s” on Green Lake, had a nice visit then
took the folks home and back to Oshkosh by 10.30 P.M.
24. Sunday: [1 R] To 730 High
Mass. Father Wagner. A missionary from the “Society of the Divine
Word” who has returned from a five years stay in Africa tells some of his
experiences there. Worked this morning. This afternoon we take another drive this
time through Omro – Poygan – Borth ended up in Weyauwega. Visited Mr. and Mrs. Anton Siegl. Mrs. Siegl was Mrs. Ed Steckbauer our
neighbor at 704 – 15th St. They took us to Mr. Siegls home on the
lake. Well built with a large basement
in it. We then drive home via New London
back home at 815 P.M.
Uncle Joe gets a car ride today.

25. Monday: Requiem for Matt Baier this morning. Thres and myself attend. This evening we visit at Norm Browns 527 E
Wis Ave Neenah. Father David Fasselman
and his mother –Aunt Nora to the Browns are there. Father Bob is now at Monticello. We had a squab dinner, Father Dave did some
singing, he has a very fine voice, then Norm and Sybelle showed slides, and
then I should our movies of the trip to Florida and part of our trip to Europe. Home at 1 A.M.

26. Tuesday: [1 R] To Kiwanis luncheon, our table
Hugo Rees – myself -2 Greg Wileys Jr. and Sr. and Charles Wiley California –
Ozz Witte. Dr. Forsythe, a minister,
spoke on teaching children religion at home.
The Winnebago County Fair opens today.
27. Wednesday: [3 R T] The
Sisters of St. Vincents have their outing at our cottage today. It turns out to
be a very nice day. Eleven Sisters are with us and have a grand time at the
lake and also at Canasta and Bingo. We have a wiener roast in the evening which
they all enjoyed immensely. Donald and family are also present. The Sisters
have a quite a time with Debbie and Jr. This is Oshkosh Day at our Fair. I dropped
in to see Uncle Joe this evening, but find him sleeping.
28. Thursday: Today
marks a very happy day of my life. I am initiated into the “Capuchin Order”
which really means I will share in all of their spiritual benefits. Drove to
Mt. Calvary to have dinner with the Capuchin Fathers and Brothers. Very Rev.
Provincial Father Cypran presided. He praised me somewhat more than I think I
deserved. At any rate I am now an affiliate in the order and consider it a
remarkable spiritual gift.
29. Friday: Paul Duex celebrated one year in
business yesterday. He is located at 83
Monument Square. Received the bad news
this morning that Walter Dodd passed away suddenly at Mercy Hospital yesterday
afternoon.

31. Sunday: To 730 Mass St.
Vincents – Father Wagner. Then to work
the rest of the morning. Otto Lemke
takes Ed Fretschl to the cottage after dinner.
Ed wants to get in some good fishing.
