03.  Saturday: Take off the storms at home today, wash the windows and put on the screens.  Donald and Billy do the upstairs and I take care of the downstairs.  This evening the “Oshkosh Giants” open the baseball season here within attendance of 2929 which is very good.  We attend the game.  It is marked by appropriate opening ceremonies and performances.  Blanche Rohr pitches the first ball.  Mayor Siewert is the catcher.  Oshkosh wins a well played games in 10 innings.
04.  Sunday: [T] To 730 Mass St. Vincents, Father Wagner, he explains Contrition both perfect and imperfect.  I work part of the morning have early dinner, then pick up Joanne Mauritz and we are off for a drive around Lake Winnebago.  Stop at Stockbridge and what used to be a hotel run by Gillespie’s where Thres’ brother Frank Drexler passed away, also at the drug store where he worked.  It is now run by a Mr. Penning.  Also stopped at Hi Cliff then home.  This evening we attend play by St. Vincents C Y O “Love Your Neighbor” A Good Performance.

05.  Monday: [R 4 M] To Kiwanis directors meeting at the Raulf.  Temperature goes to 88° on our thermometer.  This afternoon drove to Berlin to see Harry Kujawa, we stopped at Steele’s Restaurant, I learn Mr. Steele is a brother to Mrs. Frank (Mildred) Keefe and that Mrs. Steele is a sister to George Banderof.
06.  Tuesday: Its rather cool out this morning.  Took Ken Sepersky as guest to Kiwanis luncheon.  Local musical Hi School talent furnished the program.  Harold Arentsen introduced the students.  Dick Hoeltschl and Carol Hahn sang a duet.  Ma and Mary Ann attend Lady Foresters mothers day party at St. Vincents.  Father Milbauer was serenaded his birthday is today, he is 26.
07.  Wednesday: [R 2 M] Well we finally have some rain that counts, this is the first since Easter Sunday.  The Annual 4 H Speaking Contest is on at the Court House Lounge tonite.  The Seniors in the lounge, the Juniors in the Court Room.  My judges Clarence Kelley and George Savage for the Seniors and Louis Lyons and myself for the Juniors.
08.  Thursday: Cloudy this morning, clears during the morning.  Took Emma Lemke and Thres to Mercy Hospital.  Emma stays with Caroline Kellerman who was operated Monday.  Visited Aunt Mary –Joe Fenzl –Anna Heinzl (Mrs. Burkhardt) she was 77 last Thursday.  She is to be operated tomorrow.  Visited Otto and Mame Stoegbauer.  They were in an auto accident last Sunday.  Visited with Sister Irene and on the way home, view the remains of Bill Hoeppner.  Tonite to K C Father Daughter banquet, took Bill and Joann Mauritz, had a very nice time, met Rita Weiss, cousin to Art Hazen.  Home at midnight.

09.  Friday: [R 4 M   T] As of today we have stop and go lights corner Jackson – Light and Marion Streets.  Stopped in to see Uncle Joe this noon.  He is showing further improvement.  We are giving orchids and Orchid corsages with four oz. or 16 oz.  Parke Davis Vanilla.  Price is 89 and 329.  The Orchids have not arrived as yet.  Something new for Oshkosh.  A weather beacon has been installed atop the Oshkosh National Bank and the inauguration ceremony is tonite.
10.  Saturday: Fritz (Buzz) Baumgartner stopped in this morning.  He is on a furlough, expects to be sent to California.  This evening Thres and self attend K C boxing bouts at South Junior Hi School.  They are better than the first we attended.  About 1000 fans attended.
11.  Sunday: This is not only mothers day but also “First Holy Communion” for our little boys and girls at St. Vincents at 730 Mass.  Monsignor Bastian speaks to the children of Divine Love and the importance of this beautiful Sacrament.  To the adults he stated it was a day of happiness or sadness, but it is not too late to repent.  Took Thres and Mary Ann to the Town Grill for dinner.  Arrived 1 P.M. left at 345.  Bob Kniss and family are also there.  Eddie – Florence and Boys and Ed and Maude Labudde to the Roxy.  Work tonite 6 to 930 P.M.

12.  Monday: [T   R 4 M] A busy day for me.  Zala Miller is over to talk about tomorrows Kiwanis Directors Meeting.  Norm Brown tells me Mrs. Plank (Anna) has fleabitis.  Had dinner tonight at the Athearn with Leighton Hough –Harold Zweifel – Edwin Ristow.  Important meeting about acquiring property for parking facilities west of Oregon St. followed.  Think we have accomplished enough to get started.  Thres to Womens Council of Catholic Women banquet at the Raulf.
13.  Tuesday: Buzz Baumgartner is 23 today.  To Kiwanis luncheon Wm Franz Angermeier, a teacher from Straubing Germany spoke.  The Oshkosh Giants win a 11 inning game for Wisconsin Rapids last night 7-6.  The Catholic Knights Branch 154 St. Vincents wind up the “Sick Benefit” with a party at the Gym.  The Sick Benefit is being discontinued and the fund is being divided among the members.  Back to smoking tonite after a two weeks layoff.
14.  Wednesday: [R 4 M] I work in the basement today.  A light rain fall most of the day.  This evening took Joanne Mauritz – Mary Ann and Mother to the Time Theatre.  “I’ll see you in my Dreams” stars Doris Day as the wife of Danny Thomas who portrays Gus Kahn lyricist.  “Phone Call from a Stranger” stars Betty Davis – Gary Merrill – Shelley Winters.  Both very good pictures
15.  Thursday: [T] Well I’m back in the basement, accomplish quite a lot today.  Thres to Lady Foresters card party at St. Vincents.  She bakes a big loaf of rye bread which is sold to Mrs. John Stadtmueller for 1.50.  The Stadtmuellers are celebrating their Silver Wedding Anniversary at Chilton where they now live, next Sunday.  Visited Uncle Joe this afternoon and brought him a coffee cake.
16.  Friday: Had a visit with Sister Laurentina at Mercy, met Father Eckhart visited Aunt Mary –Joe Fenzl.  Mrs. George Haverty is at the receiving desk.  Visited with Jim Eckrich, Mr. White tells me he instructed Mrs. White to open an account with Mueller Potter.  Dropped in to see Clarence Westphal, made arrangements for 4 H program for Kiwanis.  This afternoon I delivered St. Joseph’s papers to Mrs. Johanna Lange –Mrs. John Barth – Mrs. Anton Paulick, a short visit is included with each delivery.  Also drove out to Baslers to inquire about filling for cottage lot.
17.  Saturday: Took Thres and Mary Ann to see “Wait Till the Sun Shines Nellie” State Premier Showing Starring David Wayne – Jean Peters – Hugh Marlowe, also “I was an American Spy” starring Ann Dvorak – Gene Evans.  Had a surprize visitor this afternoon George Eigner, from Milwaukee.  He is now living at 3815 N. Frederick Ave. still in the accounting business.
18.  Sunday: To 730 Mass St. Vincents, and then to work.  This afternoon back to complete my mail orders, this evening a short trip to the cottage and a short visit with the Brands and then back to town.  A fire attracts our attention at 8.15 turns out to be a garage at Swisher’s.
19.  Monday: Norman Brown is over to our house for the noon meal.  The leftovers from yesterday turns out to be quite a feed.
20.  Tuesday: [T] To Kiwanis luncheon.  This is I am an American week.  We have a very good program James Dorsey (a colored boy from Milwaukee) spoke on what the negroes in the U S A have done to be real Americans, and the “American Male Chorus” a group of seventeen army men from all over the United States touring the country sang for us.
21.  Wednesday: [R 2 M] To the Court House to see Vern Peroutky about a program for dairy month.  Also Clarence Westphal.  Ray Trovinger – Florian Peck and Merrells Man in this A.M.  This afternoon to the cottage took Emma Lemke a long to help Thres cleaned windows.  I cut grass all afternoon.  Expected Donald out.  He could’nt come Debbie lost the key to the car.  Mary Ann works for Virginia tonite.  Jean Powers is laid up.
22.  Thursday: To 630 Mass St. Vincents Fr. Milbauer and Monsignor Bastian.  Took Thres to the hospital to see Aunt Mary.  Aunt Mary asked her why that man did not come along.  Thres asked “What Man” Mrs. Potter’s husband answered Mary.  Then over to Meyers and Dodds to get them to attend C of C breakfast next Monday.  Then to see Postmaster Novotny about Clement G. Hazen, brother of Art about transfer from St. Paul to Oshkosh Post Office.  Jean Powers tried to work today, lasted until 3 P.M. then Donald took her home.

23.  Friday: [R 2 M] We see Cecil De Mille’s movie “The Greatest Show on Earth ” at the Oshkosh starring “Betty Hutton” as Holly –Cornel Wilde as the “Great Sebastian” James Stewart the clown as “Buttons” Dorothy Lamour – Charlton Heston “The Boss” Gloria Graham as “Angel.” Have a call from Donald about 1130 P.M.  He’s bringing Debbie over and taking Arlene to the hospital.  Dropped in to see Uncle Joe this noon.
24.  Saturday: Well, it's a “Boy” Born to Arlene and Donald at 7.25 this morning. Weight 7 lb 2 ½ oz. Head 13½" Shoulders 14 ¼" Chest 13" Abdomen 12 ¼" Hips 10¾" Length 19 ½". Both baby and Arlene are OK. Wilbert Schmid and Marion Bloesl are married at St. Vincent's at 9 A.M. Donald and Billy Mauritz cut the grass back of the cottage, this afternoon. Spent the evening at home. Donald stays with us over night. Debbie is pretty well used to being here.
25.  Sunday: To Monsign Wm Reul’s Thanksgiving Jubilee Mass, with fourth degree Knights.  Twenty four of us acted as Honor Guard.  Father Krembs had the sermon, Bishop Bona spoke after the Hi Mass.  Then to the Testimonial Dinner at one oclock.  Met Fathers Quella –Ed Wagner –Joe Glueckstein – Louis Shoren –Joe Ahearn – Vic Kandy – Anthony Baier.  Then to the hospital to see Arlene –and Alice Wolfe, she has a little girl.  Then to the Hi School Recreation to hear the “American Male Chorus” conducted by Louis Bullock.  Mary Ann got the Autograf of most of the boys.  Tonite to Nurse Graduation exercises at Mercy.  Betty Hill is a graduate.  Dr. Kilkenny and Father Spaulding spoke.
26.  Monday: [T    R 2 M] Robert Binder – Donald and myself put in a new dock at the cottage.  It took us from 9 to 12 Noon.  It is a beautiful warm day.  This afternoon Thres plays cards at Irma Kalbus 244 W. Irving.  I took Emma Siewert –Mary Fenzl and Thres over there.  This evening to KC 4th Degree Meeting.  They voted to buy a chalice I had brought for their approval.  After the meeting back to work until 11.30 P.M.  To bed at 1 AM.  Visited Uncle Joe also this eve.  Foreign Ministers of the United States – Great Britain and France signed Peace Contract with Western Germany Konrad Adenauer, Chancellor signed for West Germany.  The 52 day Western Union Strike ended today and flow of messages will return to normal in a few days.
27.  Tuesday: To Kiwanis luncheon.  Dr. Pfefferkorn presented little Gehrke, to whom we furnished a piano.  Debbie slept 13 ½ hours straight thru last night.  I think thats a record for her.  Visited Sister Irene at Mercy, also Aunt Mary –Frank Jungwirth – Mary Berger.
28.  Wednesday: We take the 9th Grade St. Vincents Graduates to Rippin Good Cookies Factory at Ripon, then to Madison State Capital – Norbertine Novitiate at Monona – Vilas Park then home.  We enjoyed the trip thru Ripon Foods Inc.  One of the men told me they use 1600 sugar in one day, a carload of flour lasts 3 days.  Last October they made a record, one million pounds of cookies in one month.  The employees were treated to a dinner party and dance at Belle Air for this achievement.  At Madison a guide named Sullivan took us thru the governors reception room – the assembly – and the Senate and the Supreme Court.  At the Norbertine Novitiate we were entertained by Father Leonard Wagner.  We found the place in a jiffy this time.  Some of the boys and girls went swimming in Lake Monona.  At Vilas Park we had supper.  Six girls in my car: Vernice and Barbara Jungwirth –Dolores Sitzberger –Barbara Vaisse – Bernice bill –Genevieve Neubauer.
29.  Thursday: [T] Yesterday Monsignor Bastian’s Birthday.  He is 79.  Donald brought little Donald Jr. and Arlene home from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  Drove to Berlin this morning to pay on Donald and my note.  Harry was not in.  He was to the doctor with Mary.
30.  Friday: We have a lovely parade, but Memorial Mass at Cemetery had to be called off account of rain.  Mary Ann to a movie with Joann Mauritz.  Thres and me spend the evening with Uncle Joe and Annie.  Television is not very good.  The ladies Rose – Marion – Beck – Putzer –Mary Drexler have their dinner at Hi K.  Understand Father Mike Drexler and Stan _____ from West Allis are also there.
