01. Tuesday: I have a
job tonight at St. Vincents. Before and
after “Devotion to the Mother of Perpetual Help” sell candles. Took in about thirty nine dollars. Joe and I work till near midnight on
inventory.
02. Wednesday: Out
early again this morning to sell more candles, about 75 dollars taken in by Joe
Baier and myself. We work again on
inventory and complete the job of taking some tonite about 11 oclock.
03. Thursday: Mrs.
Anna Dettloff mother of Agnes and Josephine Dettloff passed away this afternoon
at her home 827 -11th St. She
was ill for many years. Born in Austria
Sept. 7th, 1868.
04. Friday: First
Friday, to church at St. Vincents at 7 Oclock. Com. Donald – Mary Ann

06. Sunday: To 730 Mass at St. Johns. A “Josephite” Father has the sermon and
explains their work among the negroes in the South. Took Fred and Mrs. Karst -
Agnes Steckbauer and son Mark - Mary Ann to see Donald at St. Nazianz. The
roads across the lake are very icy. When ready to come home a long distance
call comes in to Father Vincent for me. On calling home, Emma Baier gives me
the sad news that Thres, my beloved wife, had a heart attack shortly
after I left. Quick work by Dr. Will Wagner saved her. He got an oxygen tank
from the Sheriff's office with which he could take care of her temporarily
until the ambulance took her to Mercy Hospital. It was a sad drive home for me
from St. Nazianz, always fearing she may be gone by the time I would be home.
But the Good Lord spared her and she was fair when I arrived home. She had
called Thres Fretchel to pick her up to go to St. Vincents Card Party just
before she had the attack. Com. Anna Dettloff
07. Monday: Out early
to St. Vincents Church this morning.
After breakfast picked up Annie Weisheipl who staid with Thres overnite. Thres is fair this morning that the oxygen
tank is still going. Wrote to Margaret
and Carl –Agnes and Harry –Rose in Chicago and Donald tonite, and getting of
the orders takes until nearly midnight.
Virginia Mueller (Harold’s daughter) is working on the evening shift as
nurse apprentice at Mercy and is in occasionally to see Thres. Got a nice cake from Mrs. Kinateder. Com. Thres
08. Tuesday: Got up at
8 this morning, was rather tired last night.
Aunt Lena Baier staid with Thres last night. Thres did not sleep so well last night. Flowers arrive this afternoon, M.P. Sunshine Club –Dad and children –Marge Joe
Weisheipl and Lil Haverty – Annie, Lena and Mary –Thres Fretchel, Emma Siewert –
So. Side Business Mens Ladies Auxiliary, and a special letter from Donald. I dropped in to see Ruth Marheine and Mrs. O
Connor this afternoon. Ruth is getting
along quite well. She is just two rooms
from Thres. Thres Fretchel gives us a
nice big loaf of rye bread. Lena Baier
again stays with Thres tonite.
09. Wednesday: Up
early this morning to church. Dr. Koehler
takes and electrocardiograph of Thres.
Took Aunt Mary to see Thres this afternoon. Joe and Annie Heip visit her tonite. To Chamber of Commerce directors meeting
today. Ed Weisheipl worked one day –
yesterday – today he is sick again. Com. Thres

11. Friday: Took Mary
and over to Curative Workshop this afternoon.
Then to the Hospital. Father
Courtney and Father Roger (Clement) Miller, newly ordained priest in to give
Thres his blessing. Eddie Marheine also
stops in. Thres Fretchel and Emma
Siewert also visit Thres today.
12. Saturday: Couldn’t
visit hospital all day, until tonite.
Joe Weisheipl, takes Annie and Aunt Lena over tonite. I took them home. Mrs. Geo. Haverty is operated for piles
today.
13. Sunday: Thres
receives Holy Communion at 530 this morning. She is much improved. Rose and Mary Ann Weisheipl visit her, also
Joe and Emma Baier, Harry – Agnes – Mary – Johnny Kujawa from Berlin, Dr. and
Mrs. Will Wagner. Father Vincent Putzer
and his mother Alvina. Father Vincent
bestows his blessing. Father Roger (Clement)
Mueller celebrates his first solemn High Mass at St. John’s. He is the first young man to be ordained from
St. Johns since its existence, of 50 years.
14. Monday: Rose and
Ann Baier (Mrs. Mauritz and Ostertag) visit with Thres this afternoon. I’d take them home. Tillie Kuebler passed away yesterday
afternoon at her home 419 – 6th St. Born in Oshkosh Dec. 19 – 1874.
15. Tuesday: F.W. and
Mrs. Mueller stopped in to see Thres this afternoon. Took Annie Heip along tonight she brings a
radio for Thres. Marge Haverty also
stopped in.
16. Wednesday: Aunt
Lena spends the day with us. Chile for
dinner was very fine, Aunt Lena’s special.
Took Ed and Thres Fretchel with us tonite. I dropped in to see Dr. Gil Pfeiffer – Mrs. Orr
–Ruth Marheine.
17. Thursday: Kate
Duex and _____ Andrashko dropped in to see Thres this afternoon. Art and Margaret Mueller spent the
evening. Agnes –Josephine Dettloff and
Mrs. Bert Phillip stopped in tonite. Joe
Weisheipl is thru with his night job as watchman over at the Wisconsin Public
Service Corporation’s Plant.
18. Friday: Norm Brown
is here today. Visited Thres this
afternoon Manda Drexler and Mary Stadler stopped in. I also dropped in to see Ruth Marheine, she
is improving every day. Brought some
tablets for Sister Aquiliva tonite. Rose
Mary Koelbl is Mary Ann’s overnight guest tonite.
19. Saturday: Took
Aunt Lena along to the hospital tonite.
Dr. Jos. J. Kronzer now Lieutenant Commander at the Naval Air Station on
the West Coast, dropped in at the store this afternoon. He is looking very well.
20. Sunday: To 730
Mass at St. Johns. Father Roger Mueller
offered the Mass. Aunt Lena Baier spends
the day with us. To the hospital in the
afternoon. Norbert and Esther Mueller
dropped in for a visit. Com. Special Intention
21. Monday: Thres has
more visitors Mary Mathe – Mary Schoenauer Stadler –Mame Haidlinger. Mary Drexler, Tillie’s daughter stopped in
tonite, as also Thres Polier. Dropped in
to see Ruth Marheine tonite. Bizz and Mrs. are there with her. A basket of fruit is sent by Mrs. Anna
Ostertag to Thres.
22. Tuesday: E.
Forrest Polk, President State Teachers College speaks at our Kiwanis luncheon
on Washington and Lincoln. Had quite a
bit of snow today, and it is quite gloomy looking out. Visited Thres this afternoon and also tonite,
after work shoveled 250 feet of sidewalk, and was pretty tired when I got thru
at 11.30.
23. Wednesday: Ash
Wednesday, I did not get ashes today.
The first time I missed in years.
When we got to the hospital tonite, Thres had the blues, this is the
first time since she’s in the hospital.
She thought we were not coming to see her, account of going to church. Well, we did come to see year and made her
happy. Karl Radomsky called tonite from
Milwaukee to say good by. He is to go to
Fort Sheridan tomorrow for induction into the army.
24. Thursday: Edward
Weisheipl comes in for 4 ½ hours worked this afternoon. Thres had Emma Siewert to spend the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Matt Bongert to stop in also. Tonite Joe – Annie – Rose – Marion Weisheipl,
Mary Berndt – of Florence Mathe, Eddie Marheine and naturally Mary Ann and me. Wrote a letter to Donald tonite.

Leo Lanigan, Chicago. Com. Thres

many visitors today. Father Michael

29. Tuesday: Thres
does not have much company today, I think she had too much yesterday. Eddie Marheine and Jimmy dropped in tonite. A lovely photograph of little “Gail” arrives
from Milwaukee. Norm Brown is in town
today. He is off schedule. He is to be made an Elk tonite at Appleton.
