Mass 7 Oclock, then to work. Turns out
to be a day of thunder storms and showers.

02. Friday: Two Masses
this morning 630 and 700. Donald is
busy with the annual Homecoming Football Game at the High School. Big
parade at 5 Oclock. He gets in about 1 A.M. Our Indians are beaten by
West Green Bay 24-14. Visits:

03. Saturday: Received birthday cards from
Milwaukee. One can buy special delivery
tonight at 945 from Berlin.
This is a very busy day for me.
Mary Ann comes down with what acts like stomach flu.
04. Sunday: [T] My birthday begins with lovely
weather. And 55 today or rather have a
completed 55 years of life. This was
considered quite old when I was a boy.
To 730 Mass St. Johns then to work. At noon the sun is gone, rain and storm this
afternoon. About 430
The Heips and Fretschl’s come over to celebrate. We have a lovely dinner at 600
served by Thres. In the evening the
Siewerts (Will and Emm) and Aunt Lena come also. Two tables of cards complete the celebration. The folks leave at midnight. I took the Fretschls and Aunt Lena. Com. Thanksgiving and Happy Hour of Death.

06. Tuesday: To Kiwanis luncheon –Harry Ferry is
with me. Hugo Riese and myself get
birthday presents. Dr. Pfefferkorn gets
mine the shaving set Lotion –Talcum – Soap.
Tonite our Kiwanis members go to Ripon and win the song fest cup. This is the fifth time! I could not go.

09. Friday: Forty Hours Devotion begins at Sacred
Heart.
10. Saturday: Getting ready at the store for
Christmas. Took Annie Weisheipl and
Thres and Ed Fretschl to the Oshkosh tonite.
Danny Kaye is on in “Wonder Man” with Virginia Mayo and Vera Ellen. Also “Dangerous Intruder”
11. Sunday: To 730 Mass with Holy Name at St.
Vincents. Don also attends about 150 men
and juniors are present. Then to work,
the rest of the morning – Naomi Mueller – art Mueller are on today. This afternoon view the remains of Vic Boroski
at Sitters took John Sitter home, then visited Aunt Lena Baier. Joe is at Milwaukee visiting Emma. Joe and Annie Heip – Thres Fretschl – Aunt
Lena are over tonite for cards. I work
until 800. They bring a present for
Thres. M.O. Vic Borski Com. Deceased Holy Name Members
12. Monday: Frances Kramer of Marinette dropped in
at the store today. Strong winds prevail
today. The South Wall of the Grant Store
gave way and 5 men working inside are buried in the debris. One Andrew Kuhn is severely injured.
13. Tuesday: [T] Mama has a birthday and its a 59
years completed. Cards come in from
Milwaukee and Berlin in fact Agnes thinks she’s a week behind with her card
when as a matter of fact, she is right on time.
Outside of a special chicken dinner this evening there was no special
celebration. To Kiwanis luncheon. Lloyd Schaefer Fond du Lac boy scout
executive gave an interesting demonstration on out door cooking. This is my first time at our round table for
quite a stretch. Wm Vandenberg
tavern 145 Merritt St. is robbed of over $4000 about 130 this
morning. Three masked man tied the
bartenders and escaped.
14. Wednesday: Today is a very lovely day, but
crisp. I spend my evening out cleaning
our basement at home.
15. Thursday: Father Mike Drexler is in the store
today, his first time home in six weeks.
He is looking very well.

17. Saturday: Took Joe and
Annie Weisheipl to K.C. dinner at St. Marys Hall. They had a program to
raise funds for their childrens Chrstmas party. I won 4 dollars which
almost cleared my expense. After the party we spent time at home, took
them home at 1230. One
of my molars bothers me a plenty tonite. Mother and Donald drive to the
cottage this afternoon to defrost the refrigerator and put on the storms for
the winter and thats finis for the cottage this year.
18. Sunday: To 730 High Mass St. Vincents. Father Cyprian, missionary from China is here
to make a special collection. He is very
pleased with the results 360 dollars for his fund. This afternoon Harold and Mrs.Prideaux are
here from Stevens Point, to visit with us.
Harold is interested in making the change in work. He is now with Palmer Taylor. Got out the orders this evening and then home
to lay down and rest. My tooth is worse. View the remains of Laura Ostertag this

19. Monday: Didnt sleep
last night. Dr. Norman Kleinschmidt pulls
out that bothersome molar. It had a
large abscess on it. Laura Ostertag is
laid to rest this morning. Staid home
for the evening Ann and Hilda Nuernberg are here for a visit. Ann had some papers to be filled out. Ladies Auxiliary South Side Business Mens
Club played cards at our house today. Seventeen
ladies are present.
20. Tuesday: Larry Gerdes
(Nyal Representative) is in town today.
To Kiwanis luncheon.
21. Wednesday: [T] Special meeting Kiwanis
directors at the Athearn today. My term
as director ends, new board takes over.
New directors are EA Durler –Fred Hein –O.R. Jones –Joe Kitz –Dan
Schreiber –Doc Watson. Al Dunham is our
new president, O.R. Jones V.P. The
weather is not very pleasant, light snow this morning turns into a blizzard
this afternoon with much slush, and bad driving.
22. Thursday: Well Thanksgiving Day is here and winter has come up onto us over night.
Much the snow and cold prevail, temperatures down to ___ this morning. I got my first snow shoveling exercise. It really looks like Christmas out. Little Joe Baier is five today. Mary Ann has quite a party at the house
tonite. It was to begin with the hay ride,
which was called off account of the slippery roads. About 30 boys and girls are present. Leonard Fretschl arrives home early this
morning (about 100) from France.
23. Friday: Rationing of meat and butter and
shortening ends officially tonite at midnight.
Sugar and Tires are about all that is still on ration.
24. Saturday: [T] Took in the “Dolly Sisters” with
Thres and Mary Ann, at the Oshkosh.
Betty Grable – June Haver and John Payne feature the Dolly Sisters and
Harry Fox. I’ts a technicolor. Had a card from Margaret today, stating that Romy
had an operation for appendicitis last Tuesday.
His stomach trouble may have been caused by his appendix. He is doing nicely. Charlotte Schmidt Arendt’s last day at our
South Store today. Her husband is in the
states and now she must get things ready at Marquette Michigan, where they live.
25. Sunday: To 730 Mass St. Johns
(Foresters Memorial Service). Worked
until 1230. Donald
also attends the service. Took a walk to
Aunt Lena’s this afternoon also stopped at Fretschl’s. Leonard is home and looking very good. Carl has been home a week and is leaving
again for Milwaukee. A.F. Andrews –
local photographer had a birthday yesterday.

26. Monday: Margaret Voelz Hanson begins work at our South
Store today. This is her third venture
with us.
27. Tuesday: [T] To Kiwanis luncheon. Dan Schreiber gives a fine talk on aviation. More snow today.
28. Wednesday: It is still snowing and very slushy
out.
