01. Wednesday: [R 2 M] Took Thres Fretschl of two
cottage this noon. Annie Heip couldn’t
come.
02. Thursday: [T
R 4 M] Took down and Billy Mauritz to the cottage this morning to cut
down some of the large trees.
03. Friday: Thres spends a few hours at Rose
Binder’s this afternoon –Jo Nolte –Vess Haveman – Mame Siewert are also
there. Party is over at 3.45 P.M.
Monsignor Fitkau is in town. Met him at
Mercy Hospital.
04. Saturday: To Herman Jansen’s for haircut and
shave. Herman’s birthday today. He is 60.
Going to celebrate at the cottage tomorrow. Took Billy along this afternoon, finished
cutting trees, now to burn them. Charles
Warren – “Cenol Man” is in to take an order.
Took Emma Siewert back to town this morning. This evening to American Legion to Leo Girens
and Betty Jane Schneider reception and dance, we did not dance, met many
Schneider’s Frank – Joe –Buit also Girenses and Weisheipl’s. Home at 11.50 P.M.
05. Sunday: To 730 Mass. Msgr. Bastian Sermon Fr. Milbauer about
Penance. Worked this morning – nap this
afternoon – back to work this evening.
Mary Ann is taking her vacation this week. Frank Weisheipls take Annie Weisheipl along
with them to Cornell for a weeks vacation.
06. Monday: Sisters of St. Vincent and Sister Alvina
and community from Appleton of outing at our cottage. Not too pleasant today, but they have a good
time. I ate noon meal at home all by
myself. This aft. Kenn Seperske drops in
we have dinner at the “Town Grill.”
07. Tuesday: [TEG] Did not get to Kiwanis luncheon. Kenny and I are busy with Fall One Cent Sale –
First Aid Supplies –August Specials etc.
I took into the “Roxy” for luncheon.
08. Wednesday: [R 2 M] Thres and I are married 40
years today. Its a beautiful day like
our wedding day. No planned celebration. After working most of the day, left for the
cottage about 530. Ed –
Rose Binder – Les – Mary Borish – Ed, Dess Wirtz – Walter, Leone Dodd – Leo,
Mary Girens surprize us although we are not really surprized, we expected them. They presented us with a card shuffler. Had an enjoyable evening they left at 2 A.M.

12. Sunday: [T] To 730 Mass with
Holy Name Society. Monsignor Bastian. Father Wagner has a nice sermon about the
Vigil coming up next Tuesday. Worked
this morning. Had noon meal at the
cottage. Donald and family are out this
afternoon. About 4 Oclock Joe and Annie
Weisheipl – Ed – Thres Fretschl – Emma Siewert – Otto Lemke arrive. I prepared a delicious Wiener Roast for them. Today is a beautiful day, we could sit
outside very comfortably at night. Don
and family are out again after work, we played four hand cribbage, the rest
played sheephead, I also played 3 games of sheephead. The folks left at midnight. It’s a beautiful moonlight night.

13. Monday: Had a surprize this morning, its
raining what a change in a few hours. Had Norm Brown out for the noon meal. Donald takes his vacation this week. Marion Weisheipl’s birthday, she is 31.
14. Tuesday: More Rain today. Kiwanis luncheon at Legion Hall. Forgot today is a vigil and ate meat. Sunday’s Sermon by Father Wagner did’nt do
much good in my case. Sent 3 packages to
“Resi Rothbauer” Parsberg Oberpfalz Bayern Germany. Postage 700. Mary Ann is out tonite with Jean Powers – Ginny
Abrams at Wussow’s Steak House for “Lobster Tail.” Has a fine time, home at 1 A.M. Father Alphonse at the house tonite for a 2 ½
hour visit.
15. Wednesday: [R 4 M] To 630
Mass. Father Milbauer. This is our third day of rain. Donald – Arlene – Debby – Mary Ann drive to Antigo
to see Father Mike Drexler. This
afternoon Thres and self visit Aunt Mary at the hospital. Her allotment is now increased by the county
to 75 dollars a month to help defray hospital expenses. Met Monsignor George Schuster from Lincoln
Nebraska. His mother is at the hospital. Visited Mrs. Abrams also, Mrs. Hanson, her
room partner is unconscious.

16. Thursday: A day without rain. Father Wagner to Two Rivers to see his cousin
Father Ed. Cork Weisheipl’s birthday. He is 42.
This evening had a visit with Monsignor Bastian, Madeline and Josephine. Madeline tells about operation for varicose
veins, performed by Dr. Lynch.
17. Friday: Took Donald to Depot this morning. He is off to Chicago with Norm Brown – Bob
Kniss and sons to see the White Sox –Cleveland double header baseball and
tonite the All Star –Cleveland _____ football game at Soldier Field. At least 90 000
people expected to be there. I met
Sister Matilda –Sister _____, Al Embury – Bill McDonald – Father Eckhart –
Harry MacPherson at the depot. Father Eckhart
to Belleville Ill for retreat.
18. Saturday: This
is a big day for Emma Siewert and Otto Lemke. They are married at St. Vincents
by Otto's son, Father Norbert Lemke. I'm Best Man - Thres - Bridesmaid.
Breakfast at Maxine's “Ray Siewerts.” I then worked for three hours. Dinner at
Maxine's. Eddie is here from Kaukauna. Worked another hour. Then took
Thres to Mercy Hospital. We visit Aunt Mary. I visit Jack Kavage. Also stopped
to say good bye to Sister Aurelia. She leaves Monday for Port Washington. Her
term of six years here is completed. Also saw Sister Philipbertha; she wants a
fountain pen. Well she shall have it. Then over to Otto's son in laws on New
York Ave. for sandwiches and beer. I called for Donald at the depot, then back
to Blodgetts. Home at 11 Oclock.
19. Sunday: To 730 Mass. Msgnr. Bastian. Sermon Father Milbauer on being meek and
humble. Worked from 9 to 12.30. After dinner to Al Biebl’s to look at the
table and chairs for our kitchen. Then
home for a nap, then back to work from 6 to 9.
20. Monday: Rainy and Cloudy today. Had Norm Brown over for dinner. Oscar Gallun (Bruce Publishing Co.) is
started us out with a list of Catholic Books, both fiction and religious, to
sell. This evening we see “Doris Day and
Gordon Mac Rae in “Moonlight Bay” in technicolor, also “Million Dollar Pursuit”
with Penny Edwards – Grant Withers – Norman Budd – Steve Flagg. Very interesting. Ed Fretschl is taking his vacation this week.
21. Tuesday: Sy Propson back on the job. Dr. Martin Koeck is in the store to say hello. He worked for us years ago. His wife is now doing nicely, she was a polio
victim. Joe Biebl delivers a table in a
chair is set for our kitchen. Joe Fenzl
takes Thres – Emma out to Dess Wirtz cottage this morning. It’s a surprize for Emma Lemke. The S.S.B.M. Auxiliary Card Club has lots of
fun. About 22 ladies present. Emma gets many presents, mostly comical. Frank Boeder is laid to rest. Fred Baumgartner has an off day in temper.
22. Wednesday: [T] A nice day, gradually getting
warmer. This is Joe Weisheipl Jr.
birthday. He is 44. His mother sent him a present of Home made
Rye Bread and Gstautens (Headcheese).
Took a ride to cottage this A.M. with L. J. Long to fix our water pump. After 2 ½ hours we got nowhere, had to call
in the plumber in the afternoon.
Everything OK but Long brought the wrong water gauge. Took Thres Fretschl along to cottage at
Suppertime. Otto and Emma Lemke brought
Joe and Annie Heip. Annie stays with us,
rest home at 1 A.M. Mary Ann stays with
Joann Mauritz overnight. The 45 000 ton Battleship “Wisconsin” goes aground in
the Hudson River.
23. Thursday: To Chamber of Commerce Retail
Division meeting at Athearn this noon.
Donald and family to the cottage to pick apples this morning. Ann Ostertag phones about use of the cottage
next Sunday. Sim Menzel owner Menzel
Hardware Store died this A.M. 11.05 at Mercy.

24. Friday: [R 4 M] Took Annie Heip back to town
this morning. Took Ed Fretschl along
this noon. He’s been taking orders for
fish, in anticipation of a heavy catch.
He went out this afternoon, almost
got a big one – he got away as usual.
This is Esther (Mrs. Norbert) Muellers birthday. Sylvester Schwartz retired Northwestern
railroad conductor passed away last night at Mercy. Born May 18 – 1871 Green Bay married Theresa Stein
Nov. 22-1898. She died Jan. 14 this year.
25. Saturday: Ed is out at 5 A.M. to get that big
mess of fish. He came in at 830 with 4 little ones, the kind we call
minnows. He will not be able to fill
those orders.

Rather cloudy this morning – temperatures 66 about 930 the skies clear for a beautiful day. Took Ray Ostertag family to the cottage. They spend the day with Bill Mauritz family
and Joe Baiers Grandpa Joe Mauritz and Barbara his wife also are with us. This is quite a treat for them. This afternoon Thres and me view the remains
of Sylvester Schwartz and Mrs. Anna Serwas at Fiss and Bills, this morning Sim Menzel
at Konrads. Mary Ann works for Billy
Mauritz today.

27. Monday: Waited from 8 to 825 for the West Store to open this morning. Ralph Ebel on duty. Fred Baumgartner is on vacation this week.
28. Tuesday: [TEEG] To Kiwanis luncheon at
American Legion. Took Sid Dorfman along. We learn something about atomic defense from
Prof. Duncan of the Teachers College.
29. Wednesday: Oshkosh Day at the County Fair. It is a pleasant day without sun shine. I worked at the cottage this aft. Father Wagner comes out to take the boat and
motor for ride on the lake. Bobby
Weisheipl is four years old today.

31. Friday: Father Leo Schiffler and sister are in
for a visit. He brings regards from Father
