January 14

1933: "Councilmen Jim Skole, Frank Haidlinger, John Rasmussen were in this afternoon to get an ad or ads for the 'Free Press.'  Federal men made a big haul on Jackson and New York Ave. last night.  Seven hundred gallons of alcohol, one new truck and trailer, another truck and an escort auto.  Men held are Adolph Siebold, Oshkosh; Sam Weiner, New London and Earl Blink, New London.  It was an unlucky Friday the 13th for them.  Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wrobel 1151 10th celebrate their golden wedding anniversary today.[from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1934: "10:30 Mass this morning, dinner and then to work for the afternoon.  In the evening took Thres to Keno party while I worked at the store until 9:30 then to the Keno party with Heip at St. Vincent's.  I won a blanket, and pen & pencil set; Thres won a ham."  [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
