1945: "Took Ralph Sperry along to Kiwanis luncheon today. Our table Frank Labudde, Gene Vogel, Archie Gifford, John Bangert, Howard Godshall, Ralph Sperry and myself. This evening took Rose Weisheipl and Naomi Mueller to the posrt office for a conference about the new type of money orders to be issued February 1st in denominations from one cent to ten dollars. Harry Wussow showed the ladies thru the post office after the meeting. Stopped at Court Tavern on the way home and treated Rose and Naomi. Temperature is 5° below this morning." [from A. E. 1951: "Temperature is 31° below this morning. Coldest since Feb, 20, 1929 when it was 34° below here. Lone Rock, Wis. is the coldest spot in the U.S.A. 53° below. Art Mueller's water system is froze up, took all day to thaw out the pipes. This is quite an experience for their first winter out in the country. Did not go to Kiwanis Club today. Art Hazen is chaffeur for most of us at the store. Father Pemiskern drops in to day hello, he is now at Crandon." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
