January 18

1943: "Had basketball practice after school.  The snow is over our hips in some places.  At 5:30 we started a octave celebration for the octave of "St. Peter's Chair at Rome."  It is a seven day octave.  We say a few prayers for the Pope and sing 2 songs.  And we also have Benediction with our regular rosary. Today ended my 9 day novena for Mother and Dad in which I offered Mass, Communion, and rosary every day." [from Donald Potter's diary written at Salvatorian Seminary at St. Nazianz]
1944: "Weather is mild about 40° above, snow is practically all gone.  Had a letter from Donald (son) today, he is in bed with the flu.  About 85 students are down, 1/2 of those enrolled.  A half pig is delivered to our house today.  That should help the meat shortage for a time.  Dr. Norman Kleinschmit gave my teeth a going over this morning." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
