1948: "Attended Kiwanis Directors and Committee Chairman business luncheon.  It is my first attendance since November.  Am appointed Chairman of the Boys and Girls Committee.  Thres to Ladies Auxiliary card club this afternoon at Mrs. Laura Schein." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1949: "Ed Fretschl almost had a fall down the basement steps at the store.  He did suffer a strain to his back.  Milwaukee stree car employees are off the job today, a stike having been called by union officers and Milwaukeeans are on the walk.  This evening Joe and Annie Heip and Thres Fretschl are with us for cards.  Ed is taking it easy at home.  Cork and Rose pick up the folks.  Cork likes the home made rye bread.  The folks leave at 2:30 A.M." [from A. 1953: "Today is the day we purchase the building on the northeast corner of Main and Otter Streets.  It belonged to the Clara Kelly estate.  It took place in Walker Patri's office; I paid a cool sum of 69,000 today.  I had 1000 dollars as retainer fee previously making the total 70, 000.  Norm Brown is in town and over to our place for the noon meal." [from A.
