1947: "St. John's Congregation is celebrating their golden jubilee today. Bishop Bona is here from Green Bay. St. John's Church was dedicated June 13, 1897. First pastor was Father J. Morrisey to 1905, Rev. James Hogan to 1919, Rev. Wm. Mortell to 1932, Rev. John McGinley May 1932 to July 1932, Rev. Jos. Ahearn to 1938, Rev. Roland Ahearn 1938 - 1939, Rev. Francis McKeough June 1939 to Sept 1939, Rev. Les. Courtney Oct 1939- May 1945, and Rev. John Murphy the present pastor. This evening Ed and Thres Fretchel, Joe and Annie Weisheipl, Aunt Lena Baier are here for "Father's Day" celebration. It ended at 1:30 A.M. [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1950: "Sisters of St. Vincent's are having their outing at our cottage. Sister Romano showed me the lovely watch she received Sunday from the ladies Altar Society. Met Carl Diener at the bank today. Tells me he sold out last week. Is going to take a vacation. The C and L Food Shop is no more. Took the sisters home at 7:30. They surely had a nice time and nice weather. I understand several of them took bicycle rides, some played croquet others played bean bag; they all played bingo. Faye Baier and Carol Schmidt rode from town to the cottage on their bikes. They spent the day there also. Thres and self took a drive to town to see Aunt Mary at the hospital tonite. She had a bad day, very feverish." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1952: "To 7:30 Hi Mass, Father Milbauer, Corpus Christi Procession after Mass. Monsignior Bastian announces the sad news that Art Hill passed away suddenly at 6:35 this morning of a heart attack at Mercy where he had been taken at 5 A.M. Mueller Potter have their picnic at the Power Boat Club today. We all have a good time play baseball. I made 4 safe hits, volley ball, horse shoe, shuffle board. Art Mueller, Hazen, Baier, Kenny and myself work the evening shift. Took the Fretchels home at 11:30 P.M." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
