June 5

1939: "Donald gets his first experience at weekday serving mass. He serves the 6:30 Mass each morning this week." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1942: "To church at 7 o'clock. I had a peculiar accident last night or early this morning, fell asleep on the davenport with a lit cigar. Thres had also fallen asleep on a chair, but was awakened by the smell of smoke. A good sized hole had been burned in the upholstery of our radio bench. Well, we were lucky. Had a surprise today, Billy Secord from Duluth, Minn. stopped in this afternoon. He is the son of Harold Secord." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1944: "Donald begins working at the North Store this morning. Also got his labor permit and Social Security Number XXX-XX-XXXX. Melvin Karst begins working at the West Side Store. Dropped in to see Annie Heip this noon. She is now sitting up. Father Frank Schoettl drops in at our house for a short visit. Harry Kujawa brings in the folks from Berlin to catch the train for Milwaukee. Agnes says baby Gail was grand at their house." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
