1934: "Attended 7:30 Mass then took Ed out to the cottage. Sang with the mixed choir at the 10:30 outdoor Mass sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The Fox River Valley is celebrating the Tercentenary of the coming of the white man to Wisconsin. It was an impressive occasion, the Fourth Degree Knights in official regalia also the Boy Scouts were there in uniform." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1940: "Another hot day, 88° in the shade. Druggist of the 6th Congressional District meet at the Hotel Raulf tonite. A dinner precedes our meeting. Some ladies are in attendance. Wilbur Lalis is our chairman." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1941: "Had a pleasant surprise today. Father Jos. Ahearn dropped in for a short visit at the store. His parish just completed a new school and community hall costing 196,000 dollars. Attended the South Side Business Man's Auxiliary Picnic at Morgan's this evening. Thres won two prizes (Pot of Gold) 25 pennies and some doilies. Bill and Emma Siewert stop over at our house after the party. Our party ends up at 1:30 A.M. Gene Englund, Kenosha, outstanding U of W basketball player and captain of the U.W.
