Diary of Alfred E. Potter September, 1933

01.  Friday:
02.  Saturday: Started for Milwaukee at 8 A.M. with Mrs. Rose Miller and family to take Caroline to the convent. Stopped at Holy Hill as Sister Ambrosia had not been there, then on to Milwaukee, stopped at St. Joseph's to see Sister Joselia “Ann Nigl.” She was busy at the organ at 11:45 A.M. 4 weddings and a funeral at St. Joseph's this morning. Dropped in to see Frank Kellner on Cherry St. Met Arthur P. Roberts. He knows Hank Rusch. Then on to the convent. Met Mary Pable, Florence Karst, Genevieve Drexler. Back home at 6 P.M. The day was ideal and the folks enjoyed it. Learned that Monika Mauritz “Sister Melora” is at St. Mary's Menasha.
03.  Sunday: 730 Mass with Mixed Choir.  Then to work until this afternoon, 430.  Oh to the cottage at 530.  Bill and Emma Siewert and Joe and Ann Weisheipl come out to stay for Labor Day.  Wonderful evening.  Lots of fun “the moon is out bright all night” and the party broke up at 3 A.M.
04.  Monday: Up at 8 Oclock, we’re all still tired, but finally get started and then out fishing.  Had a very good luck, caught 140 fish, I caught over 100 myself.  I believe this is the best I’ve ever done.
05.  Tuesday: Back on the job this morning and it’s getting warmer, 87° in the shade.  Took Leona and Rose Drexler along to the cottage at night.
06.  Wednesday: Henry Staun passed away last night at 715 at his home 757 Hi St.  He used to travel for Passers Paints and was interested in “Catylin Products.”
07.  Thursday: 92° in the shade today.
08.  Friday: This turns out to be a real hot day 98° in the shade.
09.  Saturday: Saw Margaret Mueller out for the first time today, she’s been sick for two weeks.  Joe Baier’s birthday, he is 29 years young.
10.  Sunday: Joe Baier, Joe Hemmer, Bill Mauritz and Rose and Baby spend the day at the cottage.  They brought along a pony and we stir cleaned it up in a hurry.  Had a nice fish fry in the evening.  The Retail Meat Dealers State Convention begins in Oshkosh today.
11.  Monday: I don’t feel so good this morning.  Headache and bad stomach, but improved during the day, so much work there isn’t much time to think of headaches.  Move back to town this morning.
12.  Tuesday: Broke the rear bumper on my car this morning driving out of the garage.  Ed Fretchel has a birthday, he is 48.  Rev. Ino Nuernberg dropped in for a while this morning.
13.  Wednesday: it rains but the ladies don’t care.  Mrs. Mary Schneider, Anna Weisheipl, Mrs. Frank Reisell, Mrs. John Drexler, Mrs. Rose Miller, Mrs. Theresa Kellermann, Mrs. Anna Frank, Mrs. Richard Andrashko, Mrs. Frank Miller all had a good time in our cottage.  Fred Schneider, Frank Miller Joe Heip and myself played sheephead in the evening.  I made 40 cents.
14.  Thursday: Took a ride to Fond du Lac this evening.  Visited Fred Worm. Charles Vedder buys a gin buck.  Visited Joe Kollross too.  His sister Rose happens to be there also.

17.  Sunday: 730 Mass as usual.  Took Ed Fretchel to the cottage.  Worked until 2 P.  M.  Then to the Oshkosh Theatre.
18.  Monday: Judge George Shaughnessy of the Milwaukee Municipal Court passed away yesterday afternoon at 4.25.  He was born May 3-1895 and only 40 years of age.
19.  Tuesday: Raymond Kurz and Dolores Mirkes are married at Saint Vincent’s this morning.  Rev.  Victor Kandy dropped in for a short visit.  Mr. Ford Eastman Representative is in this afternoon.  Attended K C meeting tonite.  Father Bastian was the speaker and his subject “Marriage and the Christian Family.” It is a timely subject and was well presented.
20.  Wednesday: Anna Baier is laid up today with a cold.  Max Weisheipl Sr.  Is 80 years old today.  Today is New Year’s Day for the Hebrews.
21.  Thursday:
22.  Friday: Bill Mauritz and Rose Baier are married two years of today.  Start for Chicago this morning at 11.30.  It is a nice day.  Landed in Chicago about 3.30.  Had supper at the “Oriental Gardens” Met Cork Weisheipl, Dan Russo and Mrs. Took in movie and vaudeville at the “Palace Theatre.” “Apple Annie” was the picture and it was very good.  Drove to the Chapman Apartments at Leland and Malden.  Cork came up and we landed in bed at the 4.30 A. M.  Chicago time.
23.  Saturday: (Chicago) "Out to the 'Century of Progress' fair today and it was plenty warm. Took in Admiral Byrd's ship and other attractions on the Midway.  Staid until 11:30 P.M.  Then back to our rooms.  All we got to bed at 3 A.M.
24.  Sunday: Attended Mass at “Our Lady of Lourdes” Church.  After breakfast at the Gold Blatt Restaurant back out to the fair.  Met Mr. and Mrs. Mueller and Mr. and Mrs. Dehning.  Took in “Wings of the Century.” Went “To Hell” Saw the Freaks, The Streets of Paris.
25.  Monday: Back to the Fair for a last visit.  Took in “The Belgian Village” and got into the Belgian Folk dance with the girls.  Well it was allright I got a lot of kisses from the girls anyway.  The Hall of Saints surely was interesting.  Had dinner at the “Oriental Gardens and then to the Musical Comedy “Take a Chance” And other visit at the Oriental and then to our apartments.  Corky and Aubrey McConnell dropped in for a chat.
26.  Tuesday: Start for home at 10 A.M. run into rain at Waukegan and it continues until nearly home.
27.  Wednesday: Not so good on the job today.  Lots of work that don’t feel like working.  Took a drive with Frank McCarthy this afternoon to Clintonville to see Dick Milbauer.  He invited us for dinner to their Hotel and it is a pretty place for a small town.  Met Edgar Ostertag there.
28.  Thursday: Saw Mr. Sager this afternoon at the North Store.  I think I haven’t seen him for nearly 30 years.  He is Carl’s Dad.  Started K C Bowl and tonite at St. Mary’s.  My team is composed of Wm.  Nuernberg, John Hable, Richard Reif, John Franz and myself.  I bowled as usual, punk 84 –108 – 173.
