March 22

1933: "Margaret Drexler's birthday today; she is 25. John Drexler's birthday also. The President must have signed the bill legalizing 3.2% beer. The whistles are blowing and people are in a happy mood. Visited Jacob Paulick Sr. this morning. His condition remains unchanged.  Louis is their home-brewer. Visited at Anna Drexler's in the evening, congratulated Margaret on being ¼ century old. Harry is here from Berlin. The roads are open again. John Mayer, prominent K.C. of Neenah passed away this morning at 2:35 at Theda Clark Hospital. Graduate of Pio Nono College of Milwaukee." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1946: "Today marks a sad day for me. Attended church service with Thres at St. Vincent's, stopped at the store about 8 o'clock, Joe Baier tells me that Mr. Mueller called up saying he had a heart attack and wished for a doctor. I immediately went to the house, found him sitting in a chair. Asked him about the doctor. He said, 'I haven't seen him.' I called to hurry the doctor. While I was on the phone Mr. Mueller collapsed. When Dr. Bitter came, he breathed for a few moments and passed away at 8:10. I have been associated with him for 37 years, and during that time he always treated me like a dad." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
