1934: "Attended 7:30 Mass then to work until noon. Confirmation at St. Vincent's in the afternoon. About 100 were confirmed. then back again to work for the evening. Thres and Anna went to St. Mary's Keno Party. Heip and I almost forgot to call for them. Picked them up at 10:45 P.M. and then home for a few hands of sheephead. It was some hot during the afternoon 94° at 4 o'clock, 60° at 5:30 What a change." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1940: "Annual meeting of Red Cross tonite, about 25 present. Nothing unusual occurred outside of committee reports also discussion about a part time secretary. Five directors were elected for a 3 year term, Katherine Weinman, Rev. Leo Oberleiters, Fred V. Hein. After the meeting visited Joe Weisheipl's Orchestra at the Raulf Hotel, met Walter Schneider (salesman), Bill Niemuth. then out to Ray Robbins, met Mr./Mrs. Foster Norton, played some sheephead. Earl Fuller eats lobster tail, got home at 2:30 A.M. Ray still owes us a good drink." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1956: "To 8 o'clock Mass this morning. Surprised to see folks like Herb and Be Wall there. The Sisters retreat ends today. Father Sladekis in to see me this morning. Look up my friend Sister Iraneaea (Irene). Had a somewhat short visit as the folks are here to take me home.Had her come out to see Don's family; she is much impressed, she loves the children. Well, I'm home for the noon meal, feels good to be back, after our meal to Eddie Weisheipl's for another meal. Tommie made his First Communion. Couldn't let him down. They had plenty of company.
