1933: "Sang Concone's Mass with mixed choir this morning. Took a drive to visit Herman Holtz and to Omro to see Bob Spaedtke. He married Theresa Drexler on 9th Street some years ack. Met Mr. Maher; he wants to be postmaster at Omro. Work in the evening; over to Heips after 10:30 P.M. Homeward bound 12:30 A.M. and it's raining very hard." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1939: "Attend six o'clock Mass with Donald (son). Took Ed Fretchel, Robert and Donald to the cottage, then to work. Thres, Mary Ann (daughter) and Aunt Mary (sister-in-law) attend Sacred Heart Bazaar in the afternoon. Thres attends St. Vincent's Keno in the evening. We also viewed the remains of George Mauel in the afternoon. He looks natural. We are treated to two cloud bursts today - one this afternoon and one this evening. We also find hail with the rain. I was caught in the evening storm, had to stop driving for a while a Koehler's Gas Station on the West Side." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1946: "To Kiwanis luncheon - Bart Heiss and self are table partners. Thres, Donald, and Don DeBehnke out to the cottage to do some cleaning. Don takes the boat motor along. Due to the coal shortage account of strike, Chicago people are burning candles and using kerosene lanterns for light. Three weeks ago today, I quit smoking. Am feeling fair and haven't missed the weed too much. Attended Perpetual Help Devotion tonite. Thres is on committee at he South Side Business Mens Auxiliary." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
