1942: "To six o'clock mass at St. John's. Visited Mrs. Hemmer; she is very low, but she still recognized me. Wired money to Pete Hemmer this afternoon. He is at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Donald is made a Grand Knight of the Altar, the highest rank among altar boys. Other degrees are Page, Guard, and Knight Commander. Ordered flowers at Hrnak's then to Riverside Cemetery, met Harry Kujawa and family there. They spent the evening with us at the cottage. Harry is good with a scythe. Mrs. Hemmer passed away at 4: 30 this afternoon." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1943: "Dropped in to 1212 Minnesota Street to look over my old homestead where I lived as a boy 40 year ago, also to see Mrs. Ernestine Dumke, our old neighbor; she is very happy to see me, hugged me and kissed me, and we had a very pleasant visit. She is quite feeble, tells me if she lives until November 17th she will be 86 years of age. Father Frank Schoettl and his mother drop in to see us a the store. Frank has a parish at Maple Grove. Leo Junger became a papa last night; it's a boy." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
1952: "Well, it's a Boy. Born to Arlene and Donald at 7:25 this morning. Weight 7 pounds 2 ½ oz. Head 13 ½" Shoulders 14 ¼" Chest 13" Abdomen 12 ¼" Hips 10 ¾" Length 19 ½". Both baby and Arlene are OK. Wilbert Schmid and Marion Bloesl are married at St. Vincent's at 9 A.M. Donald and Billy Mauritz cut the grass back of the cottage this afternoon. Spent the evening at home. Donald stays with us over night. Debbie is pretty well used to being here." [from A. E. Potter's diaries]
