02. Sunday: Candlemas Day. At the church at 7 A.M. to sell candles. It is about 20° below zero again.
03. Monday: We are having a terrible blizzard and
cold weather.
04. Tuesday: Another very cold day, and more
blizzard. All train traffic is halted. Harvey Plashko and I do the delivering of the
store, we get stuck in the deep snow twice at night once on 19th Street
and again on Knapp Street. The snow
drifted in faster than we could shovel it away from the car. It’s 20° below zero with a strong northwest
wind and I catch a severe cold.
05. Wednesday: I stay in bed this morning. Went to work at noon. Have to buy a new battery for my car. Well the old one lasted 2 ½ years, I hope
this one does at least as good. When I
return home from work tonite, it is 21° below zero. What a mild winter.
06. Thursday: Margaret Drexler now Mrs. Karl
Radomsky is back in town. She had a cold
stormy Honey – Moon. Visited Rose in
Chicago.
07. Friday: Today marks the first above zero
weather in 17 days, since January 20th.
08. Saturday: We are in the midst of another very
heavy blizzard, all traffic is tied up again and the thermometer is going down -
down - down. Stores up town close at 5.30
to let their help and evening off.
Business is at a standstill.
09. Sunday: Attended 9 Oclock Mass this morning
with Donald. About 15° below.
10. Monday: 10° below. Thres and Anna Heip attend Cath. Womens
Valentine Party. I work until 11 P.M. Then we visited Mary and Joe Kollross.
11. Tuesday: 12° below zero. Donald’s Birthday. He is 8 years old today. Carl Radomsky is back in town.
12. Wednesday: Phone Call from Chicago
today. Rose (Drexler) Gittings is in the
Maternity Hospital. Of 4 ½ pound boy is
born to her.
13. Thursday: Margaret and Karl leave on the 2.10 this morning.
Margaret arrives at 300 this afternoon. We are having
another blizzard and traffic is entirely tied up again.
14. Friday: 17° below tonite. Donald has the mumps and must stay home from
school.
15. Saturday: A letter from Margaret states and
Rose is doing as well as can be expected.
The baby’s cute. It is being kept
in an incubator.
16. Sunday: 17° below this morning. Attended nine oclock mass this morning.

19. Wednesday: 15° below.
20. Thursday: Took the family down to Baier’s this
afternoon. Grandma Baier is 86 years of
age today, and we must help her celebrate.
The Children enjoyed the Keeno Game.
Had a card from Rose Drexler. She
is at the Lewis Memorial Maternity Hospital 3001 South Michigan Ave Chicago Ill. Baby is doing fine. His name Theodore Herschel Gittings. After work visited at Harvey Thompsons. Mrs. Thompson’s Sister Mollie is here from
Milwaukee. Lewis Cramer and Catherine
were there also.
21. Friday: 20° below during the night.
22. Saturday: Some Winter. Out of 38 days we had 35 days below zero
weather. This is a record that the old timers can't beat. Ripon Municipal
Hospital is opened to the Public today.
23. Sunday: Weather is moderating. Getting ready for a thaw. I worked all day today. Thres to Sacred Heart Keeno. After work when out to Joe Heips. Thres was lucky at the Keeno Party. Won a basket of Groceries and a 10 # Bag of
Sugar. After the ladies got home played
sheep-head until 1.15 A.M.
24. Monday: Our January thaw is on and strong too.
I hope we don’t have a flood. Donald
back to school this morning. Mary Ann
also.
25. Tuesday: Still thawing but colder this afternoon.
26. Wednesday: Ash Wednesday. Went to Sacred Heart Church Services tonite. They have “Adoration of the Five Wounds.” Snow
and it would be a swell blizzard, but the snow is somewhat heavy.
27. Thursday: A baby boy is born to Agnes Drexler Kujawa
this morning at one oclock. It weighs about 7½ pounds. Mother and Babe are doing well. Had a card from Rose Drexler
today. She expects to go home from the hospital today. Temperature is 6° above tonite.
