Diary of Alfred E. Potter June, 1935

01.  Saturday:
02.  Sunday: Attended six oclock mass, then to work.  Took Joe Baier and Joe Hemmer to the cottage this afternoon.  Did some fishing, we caught 15.  Joe Baier caught a red-horse.
03.  Monday: Attended Grand Pa Weisheipl’s funeral this morning.  Floods and Storms in Southern Nebraska caused the death toll of 140 persons.  Property damage is estimated at $12 000 000.
04.  Tuesday:
05.  Wednesday: A beautiful cold day with a little rain thrown in.
06.  Thursday:
07.  Friday: Sam Ogle is installed as exalted ruler of the Elks tonite.
08.  Saturday: Out to the cottage early this afternoon.  I find the grass and weeds are getting the best of me.  Worked from 1.45 to 8.30 P.M. cutting grass and I was all played out.
09.  Sunday: Attended six Oclock Mass.  Then to work for most of the day.  Holy Name Rally is here today.  Brings between 10 and 15 thousand visitors to Oshkosh.  Father Roland Ahearn and R. Schauer are in to pay me a visit and I’m surely glad to see them.  This is Anna Baier’s birthday, she is 28.
10.  Monday: Anna is not feeling so well, I adviser to see a physician.
11.  Tuesday: I get news today which is unpleasant and yet pleasant, to tell the truth I really don’t know which way to take it.
12.  Wednesday: Out to the cottage today. Took Ed Fretchel, Mrs. and Carl, also Anna Weisheipl, Matt Weisheipl to give the place a good cleaning. Joe, Cork, and Ed Weisheipl also come out, to fish. Perch are biting but not very ambitious for bait. The afternoon is very hot. St. Peter's Church Steeple, the tallest steeple in Oshkosh and vicinity for many years is being razed.
13.  Thursday: Took St. Vincent’s Graduates to or cottage this morning.  Father Bastian, Father Haen – Sisters Ambrosia and Valeria are there also.  Rudy Kriz –John Tauber – Ted Stadtmueller – John Mottl are chauffeurs.  Joe Hemmer has a birthday, he is 30 years of age.
14.  Friday: Have read the news that Joe Fisher 45 died on June 5th at Fort Harrison, Montana. Joe was an adopted son of Edward Fisher and Kate Fisher. He came to Oshkosh when I did from the foundling House at New York. He also attended St. Vincents School.

17.  Monday:
18.  Tuesday: This is a day of Rain, and all day too.  Our roof is leaking in several places.
19.  Wednesday: Jess Sitter and Jean Picket are married at St. Vincent’s this morning.  Joe Baier is best man.  And it is still raining.  A Shower for Ann Baier at Mrs. Ostertag’s home tonite.  She receives several useful gifts.  Harvey Plashko our driver is badly hurt when he collides with a car driven by Norman Jole.  The accident occurred on Jackson Street near the Bill Machine Company, about 9.30 P.M.  Harvey sustained a broken nose, a broken wrist, a gash over his right eye and had several teeth knocked out.  He was immediately taken to the hospital.
20.  Thursday: We’re still having a furnace coal fire.  This is quite a record.
21.  Friday: Took the children out to visit their cousins Marion, Joan and Corrinne Drexler.
22.  Saturday: Took the children for a short visit to the Baiers and then out to the cottage.
23.  Sunday: Attended 6 Oclock mass this morning.  Lady Foresters are commemorating.
24.  Monday: Another shower on Anne Baier at Mrs. Siewerts.
25.  Tuesday: A big shower on Anne by her sister Rose for the Cousins and aunts.  She receives many presents.  Ed Fretchel and Art Mueller do some moving this afternoon.
26.  Wednesday: Took the children out to the cottage.  Took along Teddie and Mark Steckbauer.  We hire a new driver at the store –Joseph Petrick.
27.  Thursday: A nice warm day.  Art Mueller is taking a day off, to move from 316 -15th to 1118 -12th St..  Well he sure had a warm job.  Took Anton and Mary Paulick to the cottage tonite.  We spend an enjoyable evening playing “Michigan Rummy.”
28.  Friday:
29.  Saturday: Ann Baier is taking her vacation from this noon on.  I worked most of the day.  In the evening took Joe and Ann Weisheipl to the cottage.  Ann played some very burn sheephead.  Mary Ann had an accident this afternoon.  She received a severe blow to the left side of her forehead, with a baseball bat swung by Phillip Herndon.
30.  Sunday: Two years ago this morning, my mother Katherine Holzbauer passed away.  Attended six oclock mass, took Donald along.  This is the first time he attends early mass.  After breakfast took the Fretchel Family with a Donald and Mary Ann to the cottage for the day.  During the afternoon took a ride to the cemetery.  Had Al Metzen pick up the Fretchels in the evening.
