Diary of Alfred E. Potter July, 1936

01.  Wednesday: Moved the family out to the cottage for the weekend. Had quite a hail storm during the afternoon about 4.45. After six o'clock there was still much hail on the ground in places. On the cross road to our cottage a tree was blown over, a cow killed on the Ciscel farm and wires down. We are without lights until 10 P.M. The ladies lost 4 strait games of sheephead again. To bed at 2 A.M. Father John Haen our assistant is transferred to Kaukauna. He changes places with Father Sylvester Stern.

04.  Saturday: The Rexall Train is in town from 9 to 11.45 A.M. We had a record crowd going thru the train, 6530 people in 2 ¾ hours. Went to the cottage in the afternoon had plenty of company, The Steckbauer family, The Wesiheipls, The Kujawas, The Radomskys, Anna Drexler and Lena. 15 Adults 7 Children. Fireworks in the evening.
05.  Sunday: Art Mueller’s Day off today.  I attended nine Oclock Mass.  We have a new assistant pastor Father Stearn from Kaukauna.  New Winneconne Bridge is dedicated this afternoon Governor La Follette Senator Ryan Duffy are there.  So are we and the Heips.  Met Edmund Ostertag at Herman Holtz’s Place.  I hadn’t seen him for over 20 years.  He’s looking good.  The Tavern Keepers are doing a land office business.  Saw “Sins of Man” at the Strand in the evening, Starring Jean Hersholt and Don Ameche.
06.  Monday: Business is good after two holidays.  Took Ed and Thres Fretchel to Mary Kollross for a visit tonite.  Fred Baumgartner is laid up with the mumps.
07.  Tuesday: Hot Spell today.  Temperature is 100 in the shade.  We move out to the cottage again.
08.  Wednesday: More heat.
09.  Thursday: And still more heat.
10.  Friday: Took two Sisters of Notre Dame to Elm Grove. It was a hot ride. Had a very pleasant visit with Sister Davidica. She will celebrate her 'Diamond Jubilee' on August 9th. Had business to transact at Drug Service Bureau, Mutual Drug and McKesson Liquor.

12.  Sunday: I work all day today. Attended 10.30 Mass and nearly withered in church. Had the Fretchels out to the cottage. Ed Jr. took them out. Took Grandma Baier home from church. Made a short stop at the Baiers to see how they all are.
13.  Monday: Today is a record breaker for heat. The official temperature is 107° at 2:30 this afternoon.
14.  Tuesday: Temperature is at 105° today.  This is the eighth day of our Pete Way.  Had company at the cottage tonite.  Matt and Amanda Drexler also Aloys Drexler came out to fish.  Forgot to mention Raymond Wolf and Anna Heip.
15.  Wednesday: Had a dip in the water today and it was a very good one.

18.  Saturday: Bill and Mary Haidlinger celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, with a few of their immediate friends, present.
19.  Sunday: Attended 730 Mass, then to work.
20.  Monday: Fred Baumgartner is back on the job after a two weeks layoff with mumps.

22.  Wednesday: Will and Emma Siewert spend the day at the cottage with us.
23.  Thursday: Back to warmer weather.  Joe Baier is not feeling well.  Naomi Miller is 21 years of age today.

25.  Saturday: Took Joe Baier home this morning.  He needs a rest.  Visited Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Paulick Sr.  Mr. Pollock is very feeble and helpless.  Visited Anna and Leona Drexler also.
26.  Sunday: Attended six oclock mass for a change.  Then on the job.  Visited George Beck in the evening.  He is helpless, but has no pain.
27.  Monday: Joe Baier tries work for this morning only.  Visited Archie Romlow tonight with Art and Margaret Mueller.  Got home at 2 A.M.
28.  Tuesday: Waldo Reichardt is due tomorrow.  Don Bludau is in town.
29.  Wednesday: Visited Mr. and Mrs. Mueller at their cottage on the Fahrney Estate.  Waldo Reichardt came back with us.
30.   Thursday: Thres comes back to town to attend the show.  Margaret Mueller tells me she didn’t feel so well Tuesday morning after our visit to Archie Romlow’s.
31.  Friday: Took Teddy and Mark Steckbauer along to the cottage today.  The rest the family came out in the evening, and staid until 1 A.M.
