Diary of Alfred E. Potter September, 1935

01.  Sunday: Attended 730 Hi Mass for a change.  Then to work for the rest of the morning.  Attended St. Vincent’s Young Folks Picnic at South Park, then out to the cottage.  Dr. John Schneider Vet Surgeon died this noon at his home 417 – 6th St..  Born April 19 – 1879 in Black Wolf.  Isadore Riedl died last night 11.10.  Born April 4 – 1860 in Austria.
02.  Monday: Labor Day! Matt Drexler and Amanda Wolf are married at St. Vincent's this morning. Sacred Heart Choir sings and I sing with them. Spent the afternoon at the cottage.
03.  Tuesday: School begins today. Donald's new teacher is Sister Romana. She taught at St. Vincent's when I went to school.
04.  Wednesday: Took a drive to Madison this afternoon.  In the evening at Ed Kremer’s Cottage at Butte Des Morts.  Had a very nice time.

06.  Friday: Anna Drexler is taken to Mercy Hospital this morning.
07.  Saturday:
08.  Sunday: Six oclock mass this morning.  Then to work the rest of the day.  Thres attends Sacred Heart Keeno Party at night.  J.  Hemmer called the night about going to the cottage.  Well I went out after 10 oclock.  Joe Hemmer – Margaret Nuernberg – William Pable –Miriam           John Koelbl –             and Joe Baier were there, out in the moonlight and had a keg of beer on tap.  Well to make a long story short Hemmer and Pable passed out shortly and were hauled home by Margaret.  St. Mary’s Congregation Diamond Jubilee Celebration begins today.
09.  Monday: Joe Baier is 31 years of age today.  Took Margaret, Leona Drexler and Anna Heip over to visit Anna Drexler at Mercy.
10.  Tuesday: Took Rose and Leona Drexler over to visit their mother at Mercy Hospital.  Syl Bludau is in town with a little “hello” from Joe Leider, Sheboygan.  Senator “Huey Long” Louisiana Dictator passed away today.  He was shot Sunday Night at the Louisiana State House at Baton Rouge and by Dr. Karl Weiss Jr.
11.  Wednesday: Joseph Jungen goes back to Josephinum Columbus Ohio for another years study for the priesthood.  Henry Wegener, druggist at Wausau died suddenly yesterday afternoon at 430.  He was in the drug business in Oshkosh over 30 years ago, on Kansas Street (So. Main St.) and also on Oregon St..  I did relief work for him several days at Wausau.  This was some years ago.
12. Thursday: Took Leona Drexler and Leona Florek to visit Anna Drexler tonite.  Dropped in to see Pollak Joe Sosinski on our way home.  He is much improved.  I bought a drink and Leona Drexler surprised us by drinking an 80 ounce glass of beer.
13.  Friday:
14.  Saturday: Art Mueller leaves for few days vacation this morning.
15.  Sunday: 6 Oclock Mass, then took Ed Fretchel and Family out to the cottage, then to work the rest of the morning.  In the afternoon concert to Anna Drexler, took Lena Baier and Mary Drexler and our family along.  Anna will have to be operated this week sometime.
16.  Monday:
17.  Tuesday: Art Mueller is back on the job.  He had gone to Lancaster to visit the Charles Voelz Family.  Peggie and Mary Ann are not so well on the trip.
18.  Wednesday: Big Hail storm and wind to quite a lot of damage around town.  The Willard Cartwright Orchard on the Buckstaff farm is damaged very extensively and nearly the entire apple crop is ruined.
19.  Thursday: Anna Drexler (Theresa's mother) is operated on this morning by Dr. Combs and Dr. H.N. Kleinschmidt.  They broke up a number of adhesions and washed her gall bladder.
20.  Friday: Took some ale to Anna at the hospital.  She is doing fairly well.
21.  Saturday: We are having spring weather, instead of Fall.  Worked until 3:00 PM.  Bill Glidden bought in his paint the Bill, only $88.40.  Well he did a nice job for us.  In the afternoon drove to Willard Cartwrights farm, for apples damaged by the hail a few days ago.  They were only 15¢ a bushel.  From there we drove to Omro.  Stopped at Pat Hefflins, had a few free beers and sandwiches.
22.  Sunday: Six Oclock Mass this morning.  Then to work the rest of the morning.  To Green Bay in the afternoon to see the Green Bay Packers-Chicago Bears game.  The Packers won 7 to 0.  Met Mrs. Joe Leider from Sheboygan.
23.  Monday: Visited Anna Drexler at the hospital in the afternoon.  She’s not doing so well.  Took Sisters Saveria and Virginia to the courthouse.
24.  Tuesday: Winnebago County Fair opens.  This is childrens day.  It is quite warm about 83° in the shade.  The children make a day of it.  I took them out at noon and we stay until 10.15 PM.  Mary Ann is all tired out and so is Donald.  Dr. Norman Kleinschmidt has an increase in the family.  Its a girl.
25.  Wednesday: (Winnebago County Fair) Oshkosh Day about 25 000 attend.  Another warm day.  Took some whiskey to Anna Drexler at the Hospital to make eggnoes.  The doctors trying hard to find something that she will retain.  Had Mrs. Joseph Micko of St. Paul is our guest today.  Took her to the cottage, had our supper there.  Quite a storm came up while we were there.  Before we left for town we were entirely without lights.  Took the ladies down town at night to win the $350, but they did not get it.  Took Margaret and Leona to their mother, Margaret stays for the night.  Mrs. Micko – Lena Baier and Anna Weisheipl spend the evening with us.
26.  Thursday: Mrs. Jos. Micko leaves for home at St. Paul this morning.
27.  Friday: Bob Spaedtke passed away after a one days illness at his home 902 Knapp, last night at 745.  He had been running a tavern since 1929 at Omro until June this year.  He was married to Theresa Drexler 5-31-28.  Born March 5 – 1899.
28.  Saturday: Had a surprise today.  The young lady asked see me, and it turned out to be Rosalia Poklasny.  She is living in Monterey, California.  Her mother is living there also.  She is married again her husband Anton having died while she still lived at Oshkosh.
