Diary of Alfred E. Potter June, 1936

01.  Monday: Took some of St. Vincent’s Actors and Actress is to Sunnyview San.  They presented “Now Adolph.” Albert Mauritz is Adolph Kraumiller.  Raymond Wolf is August Riemanschneider.  It’s very funny, and the folks at the San enjoyed it.  Art Mueller’s wife Margaret has a birthday.  I think she is 30 years of age.
02.  Tuesday: Had Donald Bludau over for dinner this noon.  He likes German Dumplings and Sauerkraut.

04.  Thursday: Ed Lange “Fond du Lac” makes his last trip here today for Eli Lilly Company.  He has been promoted to Milwaukee.  We will miss him.

07.  Sunday: Carl and Margaret Radomsky are here from Milwaukee, so are Harry and Agnes Kujawa from Berlin.  It is a beautiful day.  Graduation exercises take place for most schools both parochial in public.  Attended children play at St. Vincent’s in the evening.  Cyril Bloechl shoots himself and the hand before the children’s play.  I took him to Dr. Bitter for a shot of Tetanus Antitoxin.  In the afternoon visited Joe and Anna Heip also Matt Baier family and Anna Drexler.  Donald is distributing some of his first communion pictures.
08.  Monday: Joe Heip begins a two weeks vacation today.  Well I work all day.  After work visited at Neubauers, had a last look of their mother Mrs. Ludmilla Neubauer.  Thres and the Heips attend Graduation Exercises at St. Peter’s.  Edward Weisheipl is one of the graduates.

10.  Wednesday: Mrs. Ludmilla Neubauer laid to rest.  Took a trip to Holy Hill this morning with Joe and Anna Weisheipl.  It was a wonderful day for trip.  Stopped at Wauwatosa to see John Patterson.  Then on to Milwaukee, had lunch at the “Underwriters Exchange Grill” where Marg. Radomski works.  Stopped at Mutual Drug to see John Lange and Drug Service Bureau to see Art and Alice.  Had supper at Harry Wolf’s 1570 -24th St..  They treated us royally.  Left at 9.30 P.M. got home at 11.45 then to Fretchel’s to see Margaret who became the bride of Laurence Spanbauer of this morning, but she just left for her honeymoon.  Home at 1.30 A.M.

14.  Sunday: This is my Sunday to work all day too.  Its a very nice warm day.  Attended 7.30 Mass, Holy Name Communion, and Corpus Christi Procession.  Donald carries a bouquet of flowers.  Took the Fretchel Family out to the cottage, after church, to spend the day.  The Heips are over to the house after I am thru working.  We played cards until 2.30 A.M.
15.  Monday: I hate to get up this morning.  I feel as tho I had a hangover from yesterday.
16.  Tuesday: The “Fortnight Jollies” Sheephead Club spend the day at the cottage. They are Mrs. Geo. Hauert, Mrs. Procknow, Mrs. Joe Coter, Mrs. Richard Doman, Mrs. Al Brusius, Mrs. Leo Shubert, Marg Klemmer, and Mrs. A.E. Potter. Bill Glidden starts a paint job on our house
17.  Wednesday: St. Vincent’s 9th Grade Graduates spend the day of the cottage.  There is quite a large class this year, and they are the liveliest bunch we’ve had out there.  Father Bastian and Father Haen, Sister Ambrosia Sister Valeria and Miss Schuman are also there.  Several light showers do not affect the party.  Thres and Anna Heip attend the Oshkosh Theatre.  Two names of dead people were drawn for the 300 dollar cash prize, Lawrence Heller who drowned the other day, and Mrs. O.A. Toner.  Thres came out to the cottage at 11.30 P.M. and the Heips feel like playing cards.  Well, we quit at 3 A.M.
18.  Thursday: OH I can’t get up in the morning, so I staid in bed.  Went to work at noon.  Donald catches 7 fish of our dock.  This will make a meal for tomorrow.  Took off in the evening and rested.
19.  Friday: Wonderful day.  Donald begins today by attaching a sheephead.  Had a swell dinner from the fish Donald caught yesterday.  Didn’t see the folks again until after work at night.  Joe and Anna Heip stay overnight.  Played cards to 1.30 A.M.  Joe Louis is knocked out by Max Schmeling in the 12th Round.
20.  Saturday: Had company tonight, Rose, Bob Gittings, Bob’s Mother, Anna Drexler, Leona with her Beau Ernie Clark and little Teddy Gittings.
21.  Sunday: Bishop Rhode confirms at St. Vincent’s Church this morning.  The Gittings leave for Chicago this morning.  They stop off at Milwaukee to see Margaret and Karl.

23.  Tuesday: Took Sisters Genrose –Jomilla –Hermanhilda –Maximilla to Mount Mary.  On the way back picked up 3 young men from West Allis.  They were on their way to West Bend.  One of them “Swanson” by name is a nephew to Mr. Wm Glocke, 301 Ceape St..
24.  Wednesday: Took the family out to the cottage for the weekend.  Edward Weisheipl is chaperone for the children.  Brought Thres in this evening.  She goes to the Oshkosh Theatre all by herself.
25.  Thursday: Veteran of Foreign Wars Convention opens today.  Anna Heip stays overnight at the cottage.  I won 4 games of sheephead from the ladies.

27.  Sunday: Brought the family in this afternoon to see the big V.F.W. Parade.  Took the Heips out for a little lunch tonite.  Stopped at the Jockey Club and the Airport.
28.  Sunday: Carl and Margaret Radomsky are in town.  Today is the last day of the V.F.W. Convention, and we are glad of it.  Business sure was poor the last 4 days.
