Diary of Alfred E. Potter July, 1935

01.  Monday: Anna Baier is married to Raymond Ostertag’s this morning at 8 Oclock.  She nearly faints in church.
02.  Tuesday: Requiem Mass for Mother Katherine Holzbauer are at St. Vincent’s at 7 A.M. Mrs. and myself attended.
03.  Wednesday: Took Mrs. Ed Steckbauer and her family along to the cottage this afternoon. It is a hot day and we all take out first swim at the Sand Pit this afternoon. Took another in the evening. Drank plenty of water and stayed up until 2 A.M.
04.  Thursday: Another hot day.  June Steckbauer stayed overnite.  Took the kids out for a boat ride in the morning.  Stopped at Twin Hickory Cottage to see Matt Drexler and Manda Wolf.  Joe Steckbauer and Mrs. are there also.  Had another swim in the afternoon.  The Steckbauers come out in the evening and we have a three hour celebration from 7 to 10.  The Ohio Street Merchants have their annual picnic at South Park.
05.  Friday: Back to work this morning.  Had quite a time getting my car started.  The engine got wet from a driving shower of rain.
06.  Saturday: Worked all day today.  It is quite hot again.
07.   Sunday: Attended six oclock mass.
08.  Monday: Anna Baier is back to work after a weeks vacation.
09.  Tuesday: The days are getting warmer.  Move out to the cottage for the summer, tonite.
10.  Wednesday: Had the Steckbauer family out today.  Had our supper down by the lake and it was a treat because the weather was very hot.
11.   Thursday: This is one real hot day.  Had my supper at Mame Mondays and it was not very good.  Out of the cottage Anna Weisheipl –Rose Miller Theresa Kellerman –Anna Frank – Anna Drexler Mrs. Matt Duen – Mrs. Wenzel Putzer – Jennie Miller all have a good time.  By the time I get thru work I have a dandy cold and a sore throat.
12.  Friday: Worked all day.
13.   Saturday: Out of the cottage, tried out a new kind of motor on my row boat.
14.  Sunday: Attended 6 Oclock Mass, and worked all day and evening.
15.  Monday: Big eclipse of the moon. It is a total and is visible.
16. Tuesday: Moved back out to the cottage for the week.
17.  Wednesday: Another Hot day.  Joe – Cork and Ed Weisheipl also Ginger Troiber are out to fish.  We catch a few.  Mr. F.W. Mueller is also out for short Visit.  My new motor for the boat arrives and it works quite well.
18.  Thursday: Emma Siewert –Clara Miller –Maxine Siewert and little Billy our visitors at the cottage today.  It’s a real summer day.  Temperature is 95° in the shade.  I sit out until about 1 A.M.  Nice moonlight night and very little breeze.
19.  Friday: Another hot day.  More Company today.  Joe Hemmer Joe Baier – Carl and Ed Fretchel, Joe and Anna Weisheipl also Rose and Marion and Aunt Mary Drexler, also Joe and Cork Weisheipl.  The men fish and go swimming, and have a real good time.
20.  Saturday: Trip to Mt. Calvary this morning.  Drove about 10 miles out of my way.  Landed in “Pipe Line” Village.  Brought back Sister Valeria and 3 other nuns.  Visited Nick Schmitz at Mt. Calvary.
21.  Sunday: Attended six Oclock Mass as usual.  Worked in the morning until 2.30 P.M. then out to the cottage.  Had company today Harry and Agnes Kujawa and baby Rose – Margret – Leona Drexler, their mother Anna also enjoyed herself very much.  Baby Marie is very fond of Barbara Brand’s dog “Billy.” The Young People of St. Vincent’s have their annual outing at the Power Boat Club.
22.  Monday: My sore throat is easing up today.  I had 10 days of it which is a long time to have a sore throat.  Mrs. Anna Pfeil mother of Mrs. George Stein passed away yesterday morning at 9.30 at 603 So. Park Ave.  Born in Port Washington Aug. 21 – 1862.

24.  Wednesday:
25.  Thursday: Joe Weisheipl and Family are out to the cottage today.  They go home at 2 A.M. Friday.  Joe has swollen face that the swelling is gone after the party.
26.  Friday: Joe Baier takes his Dad Mother and Sister Rose to the cottage.
27.  Saturday:
28.  Sunday: Attended six oclock Mass then took Ed Fretchel and his family to the cottage.  I worked all day and had supper? at the South Park.  Sacred Heart Society had a picnic.  Well I had soft drinks with my supper at night my stomach re-acted very unfavorably.
29.  Monday:
30.  Tuesday: Back up to the cottage with the family for the rest of the week.  Temperature is 93° today.
