04.  Saturday: [8 M] A beautiful day, temperature rises to 75 degrees.
05.  Sunday: To six oclock Mass at St. Johns. Donald is trying a hand at carrying Sunday Journals. He helps Ed Steckbauer Jr. who is giving up his route. Harry, Agnes, Jackie and Mary Kujawa visit us this afternoon. After 7 hours of work I take the Weisheipls Joe Sr. and Annie to the Strand to see Mickey Rooney in “The Courtship of Andy Hardy” supported by Cecilia Parker, Ann Holden, Lewis Stone.  It rains a plenty tonite, after the show stop at George Buchanan's and Fritz Weisheipls. Laurence and Dolores Kinateder stay here overnite
06.  Monday: [4 M] Father John Nuernberg and Ann his sister are in to say hello.  10 is feeling quite well altho he most of the checkup occasionally.  Temperatures down to 33° today.  Thres Fretchel was 55 years old yesterday.
07.  Tuesday: [RMOXMOK] Took Donald and Mary Ann to Milwaukee today.  We left at noon, arrived at Mutual Drug at 2 P.M.  John Lange was pretty good to me.  Tommy Atkins just came back from Washington.  Visited A.O. Haas, Howdin Distilled Spirits.  Stopped also at the Church Mart.  Took the children to Gimbels and did they enjoy the escalators.  Donald purchased music, dad purchased snacks.  Had supper at Karl Radomsky’s.  Margaret has a day off and is downtown.  Stopped at Wilbur Lalis and Dana Worm on the way home.  Home at 10.20 P.M.
08.  Wednesday: [8M RMOXMOK] Dr. Norman Kleinschmit fills some of my teeth and pulls a root which should have been out before this. Its from a left lower molar and boy! does it pain. Donald gets his permit to carry Milwaukee Journals. Fannie Heisinger issues the permit. Mrs. F.W. (Minnie) Mueller is operated at Mercy Hospital this morning. She is doing fairly well tonite. Worked writing up orders tonite until 10.30 then to the post office. Dropped in to the South Side Business Mens meeting after that. Its Rudy Hafemann's birthday party.
09.  Thursday: [6M RMOXMOK] M.C. Mertz & Son are putting a new roof on our garage today.  A Special War Communique announced today that Gen. Jonathan M. Wainwright’s Yanks and Philipinos on Bataan went down fighting against vastly superior Japanese forces.  Wainwrights man were in a state of complete physical exhaustion.  Just how heavy the losses are is not known as yet.
10.  Friday: [10M RHXMOK] Norm Brown is over this morning, and is he in the dog house, well I guess yes.  Sybelle called him long distance and gave him the works.  I guess Norm must have been out last night.  I talked to Sybelle over the phone, she tells me Norm is a heel, I told her he is two heels.  Britain loses its oldest aircraft carrier the “Hermes” 10 miles off of Ceylon.  She also lost 2 heavy cruisers Dorsetshire and Cornwall in this same area yesterday.
11.  Saturday: [RAXMOK] Took Joe and Anna Weisheipl to the Strand Bud Abbott and Lou Costello with Dick Foran and Anne Gwynn star in “Ride 'em Cowboy. A Chicken dinner at Airport Tavern topped off the evening. Donald is out delivering Vanilla Compound and other items for the benefit of V.F.W. He earns 115.
12.  Sunday: To six oclock Mass at St. Johns. Donald gets his first experience carrying Milwaukee Journals. He made 48 cents. Well, its OK for a starter.

14.  Tuesday: [6M RAXMOK] Thres and I visited Mrs. Mueller at Mercy Hospital.  She is doing well, and may go home and a few days.  Also dropped in to see Vern Roberts and his wife Rose.  Vern was burnt badly about the face and hands last Good Friday.
15.  Wednesday: [8M RNXMOK] Took our first drive to the cottage.  Donald and I did cut some grass and was that a job, could hardly plow thru it.
16.  Thursday: [6M RNXMOK] Today marks the 20th anniversary of Rev. Paul Stange’s pastorate at Emmanuel Evangelical Church.  A Church Supper and party in his and Mrs. Stange’s honor was given last night by the women of the church.  Their son Robert works at our west side store.

18.  Saturday: Joe Weisheipl Sr. has the hives, on his face and hands, but not too bad to confine him.  We took him and Annie to the Strand tonite.  The “Male Animal” starring Henry Fonda – Olivia De Havilland – Joan Leslie - Jack Carson and Eugene Palette is a roar.
19.  Sunday: [2M] Donald serves six oclock mass at St. Vincents.  Thres to Communion with the “Council of Catholic Women” at St. Vincents.
20.  Monday: [4M N RJXMOK] Clean or garage tonite.  It is surprising how much dirt accumulates there over winter.
21.  Tuesday: [6M RNXMOK] Attended banquet of “Blue Cross Plan” at Athearn Hotel at 630. Plan is explained by Mr. Norby and Mr. Murphy. It was attended by about the most representative group of men I ever saw, including Manufacturers, Retailers, Ministers, Priests, Teachers, and Professional Men. Dr. D.G. Hugo, O.J. Hardy, Ed Serwas and myself comprize the advisory board.
22.  Wednesday: [RJXMOK] Took a business trip today with Thres.  She wound up her “St. Vincents Friday Club” with Wisconsin DE Lux Corp.  By noon we were thru there had lunch at “Maders” then over to McClurgs to say hello, to Yahr Lange and Mutual Drug to buy merchandise.  Met Al Hart at Yahr Lange’s.  Dropped in at Karl and Marg Radomsky’s.  Margaret is gone again same as two weeks ago.  Drove home at 6 P.M. and after we got home and unloaded our merchandise, we went to the Strand and saw two spooky pictures, “The Mad Doctor of Market Street” and “The Wolf Man.” They also played Bingo, won nothing.

25.  Saturday: [10M RHXMOK] Stopped to Joe Weisheipl's this morning to pick up Edward and Rose. Joe's hands are still looking very bad, even his face is infected. All men between the ages of 45 and 65 must register today for war service in case of emergency, that means I too must register. We take Anna Weisheipl to the Strand tonite to see “Kings Row” starring Anne Sheridan, Robert Cummings, Ronald Reagan, Betty Field. After the show a “Turkey Dinner” at Geo. Buchanans
26.  Sunday: To 6 Oclock Mass at St. Johns. Donald took Robert Fretchel around with him on his paper route. Robert expects to take this route over next Sunday.  This afternoon we go to Selenkas 6th Street to view the remains of Mr. Kindermann, Mrs. Aloys Kinateders father.

28.  Tuesday: [2M RJXMOK] Donald serves Mass at Sunnyview for Father Bastian.  Joe Weisheipl Sr. is laid up, with his hands and face in bad shape.
29.  Wednesday: [RFXMOK] Thres and Emma Siewert drive to the cottage to do some cleaning. After school I take Donald and Mary Ann out and Donald and myself put on the screens, cut grass. Things are now pretty well set at the cottage. Wisconsin Public Service pick up our refrigerator at the cottage. It has sprung a leak and it may be quite a job to repair it.
30.  Thursday: [RNXMOK] We are having real summer weather these days.  Temperatures reach a 78 to 80 every day.
