08.  Sunday: [4M] To St. Johns 6 Oclock Mass. Then to work. Eddie Weisheipl is back to work after being gone 3 days to Milwaukee. He is still on the deferred list of draftees. Sent a card of congratulations to Sergeant Karl Fretchel, Navy Yard Barracks, Washington, D.C. Worked eight hours today. Had company tonite. Joe and Annie Weisheipl Ed and Thres Fretchel. We play 5 handed sheephead a different way than usual, and it is fun. I took the folks home at 3 A.M.
09.  Monday: [4M N RMPXMOK] Eddie Weisheipl takes another day off. Had to set our clocks ahead one hour early this morning, orders are for 2 A.M. but Donald set ours ahead long before this. We call it “Daylight Saving Time” but I think the government designated it as “Standard War Time.” We in Wisconsin call it “Central War Time.” Dr. Loyd Helmes starts all over again in Oshkosh today.

11.  Wednesday: [8M RAXMOK] The Heips, Annie and Joe and Thres and self visit Ed Fretchels.  This is our belated Christmas visit.  The Party breaks up at 130 AM.  It is very frosty out when we drive home.
12.  Thursday: [10M RAXMOK] Mitchell Hepburn, Ontarios provincial premier tells Canadians in Toronto that the American navy is afraid to make contact, because they have not the supremacy they boasted of over the alleged “tissue paper” navy of Japan.  Well as wait until opportunity presents itself.  This Hepburn may be very much surprised.
13.  Friday: [8M RMOXMOK] This is Friday the 13th, a bad day for Great Britain.  Three of Germany’s mightiest warships, the 26000 ton Schornhorst and the Gneisenau and the 10000 ton cruiser Prince Eugen raced to freedom thru the English channel from their French Dry Dock Prison “Brest” and landed safely today at Heligoland, despite the British navy and numerous air planes chasing them.
14.  Saturday: [8M] Corky Weisheipl had bad luck last night when driving home from Club 41.  He collided with a parked car near the Deltox Drug Company, damaging the other car, and smashed the fender and stove in the radiator of his own car.  Took Thres and Mary Ann to the Oshkosh Theatre tonite.  “Blondie goes to college” is one picture, the other is Confirm or Deny, a war picture of London, showing air raid damage, starring Don Ameche and Joan Bennett.
15.  Sunday: To 730 Mass at St. Johns, then to work.  Rested a bit this afternoon, worked until 12.30 A.M. putting in 12 hours today.  Thres takes Thres Fretchel to Sacred Heart Bingo.  Wins the 5 # of Sugar.  “Singapore” is lost to the Japanese today, the British surrendering sometime this morning

17.  Tuesday: [6M N RMOXMOK  R5#C] The mercury drops to 42 degrees since yesterday afternoon, from 36° to 6° below zero.
18.  Wednesday: [10M N] Still cold, 4° below zero this morning.  Attended St. Vincents Service this evening.  Rev. Father Ott has the stations and is also giving the Lenten Sermons.  This is the first year as long as I can remember back that Father Bastian is not giving the Lenten Sermons.
19.  Thursday: [6M N11] Twelve degrees below zero this morning, but it warms up somewhat during the day.
20.  [8M]

22.  Sunday: To 6 Oclock Mass at St. Johns. A Jesuit Father offers the Mass. He also makes a plea for the Jesuit Missions, and a collection is taken for them. He tells us that Phillipine and American soldiers were trained at the Jesuit Military Colleges in the Philippines. Took Joe and Annie Weisheipl to the Strand Theatre to see Olsen and Johnson in “Hellzapoppin.” They are supported by Martha Raye, Mischa Auer, Hugh Herbert, and Robert Paige. It's about the craziest, funniest picture we have seen.
